Alan Thomson is on duty with four tips at Musselburgh's New Year's Day racing action.
ACCOMPLICE (1.20) has been sent north by Paul Nicholls to contest the 2m 4f Betway Handicap Hurdle at Musselburgh and the grey will prove popular with New Year punters.
Bryony Frost’s mount ran a fine second to River Bray at Wincanton in early December and is preferred to Tom Lacey’s Sebastapol, winner of last season’s Scottish County Hurdle here over two miles. He was re-introduced at a high level when sixth to Floressa at Newbury’s big November meeting but stopped quickly that day.
Nicholls has another leading candidate in the two-mile Hogmaneigh Handicap Hurdle, with Miranda bidding to build on her recent Ludlow victory over Miss Heritage. The narrow vote goes to another mare, ROSIE AND MILLIE (1.55), representing Michael Scudamore. She was unable to dominate in usual fashion in the Sandown mud but wasn’t disgraced in finishing fourth to well-treated Benson. Her earlier second to Buzz at Ascot was solid and Brendan Powell may get loose on the lead this time. Dual course and distance winner Raymond is up 9lb and bigger threats are likely to come from Proschema and Hazzaar.
FIVEANDTWENTY (12.45) looked a natural over timber when skipping clear on hurdles debut at Musselburgh in early December and can follow up against slightly stronger company at the track’s traditional New Year fixture.
Formerly in the care of Mark Johnston, she must have delighted new trainer Donald McCain with a polished round of jumping and should prove too strong for Catterick winner Kings Creek.
The 2m 4f handicap chase is wide-open, with bookmakers going 5-1 the field. COOL MIX (3.05) ran third in the race last year off a 5lb lower mark and has run well in defeat following his Wetherby success in October. Return Ticket justified favouritism here over the minimum trip last time but has the stamina to prove. Dan Skelton’s Romain De Senam was brought down at Cheltenham after running fourth to The Big Bite at Aintree and can go close for an in-form yard.
GEOGRAPHY TEACHER (12.45) had almost four lengths to spare over course and distance last month and a 4lb rise is very fair.

Long time follower of mrfixitstips mainly the racking thread finally took the plunge I’m no expert tipster but get the odd tip which I’ll share. I’m slowly learning the raceing do’s and don’ts.
Sometimes the names of horses stand out to me and correlate to what’s been happening in my life and have mean Ano that’s a crazy way to bet, however I usually get the most successful this way.
I’d also like to thank a regular contributor to the thread can’t remember who it was but one of the old timers may remember this magical day my biggest win to date thanks to this thread.
The comment was something like this de Sousa has some good rides at sandown ( a think) his last two are the most likely to go in. But worth a bet on all his rides.
I obliged and went twenty p on a l63 then when the first 4 went in I was pooping myself 5th got done on the line if I remember rightly and the sixth won never said thank you so here it is thank you can’t remember who it was can any of yous???
