Racing tips: Front runner Love De Vega to lead them a merry dance at Musselburgh

Classic travelled the best into his race at Newbury but didn't have enough to see out the trip to beat the winner who was well-supported into favouritism. Pat Dobbs got some pelters on Twitter, personally, I don't think he could've done much more.

Musselburgh 3:00 – Love De Vega 10/3 (1pt Bet365)

This is a decent small field handicap for a Wednesday and normally in races like this it can get quite messy with the pace, but I'll be hoping that Ben Curtis takes the lead in this on Love De Vega.

Judgement Call is the likely horse to challenge for the pace, but Love De Vega has made all in 2/3 wins in her career so chances are that Ben Curtis will go back to front-running tactics today. Ben rode her last time and didn't run from the front, but that still yielded a win, so she is versatile, but in small fields like this, she has done well when leading and if Ben can dictate the pace of the race that could be key. Ben is often riding On A Session but he has opted to ride the Johnston runner, which is a positive in my eyes.

My selection is by Lope De Vega, a sire who is notoriously known for producing horses who like soft ground, but he has an equally good record with fast ground horses too, so the predicted good ground will be fine, and she has previously won on good to firm twice.

Abduction will be fancied to run well after winning in good style last time out, but he's gone up 7lbs in the handicap and that's been a mark which he has struggled on in this past. Judgement Call has been progressing nicely but is also on a career-high mark so might struggle. On A Session and Manigordo are on decent marks, but I'd say Love De Vega is on the best out of all of them, especially with the chance of the race being run to suit.
