Racing tips: First time blinkers and fast ground will spruce up the useful Croachill

It was a good Bank Holiday Monday with three winners, all priced up at decent odds too. I felt like the ride on Bollin Margaret was fairly shocking, and the way he was riding it looked like he didn't have his irons in, even though he did. It's the story most of the time on the flat, where your horse is travelling nicely but can't get the gaps when needed.

Leicester 3:30 – Croachill 11/2 (1pt PaddyPower)

I put up six selections on Monday, but it's just one for Tuesday as the racing looks pretty poor to say the least and I'm banking on the first-time blinkers bringing Croachill back to form.

This is a five-runner race and doesn't look to be particularly strong, with the recent winner, Prophet's Dream looking the one to beat. However, even though that horse comes into this race on the back of a win, I think he might struggle with an 11lb rise in the handicap and if my selection bounces back to form, she could easily put all of his opposition in their places.

Croachill looks best on fast ground, she won a 3-runner race at Doncaster last summer, which was a decent performance, producing an RPR of 88. She then finished in 2nd place on her next start, but that was over 12f, which is probably a bit too far for her, before finishing 3rd/10 in a Class 2 at York, which looks like strong form in comparison to today's horses. I think you've got to ignore the last two runs by Croachill, especially her seasonal reappearance run which saw her running off 10st 2lbs on soft ground, which she clearly hated, and she more than likely needed that run for fitness too. With that run under her belt, and firm ground at Leicester, I'm expecting a much better run from the Roger Varian horse.
