I'm jetting off tomorrow so after today Cairnzy will be stepping in for a week, thanks as always to the main man. Hopefully, I can go out with a bang as the form before Royal Ascot was great, but since then it's taken a nose dive.
Yarmouth 3:30 – Tafreej 13/8 (2pt Bet365)
I had this race between the two running off joint bottom-weight, Zouzanna and Tafreej, but I decided to go with the latter.
I thought Zouzanna won a fairly poor race at Haydock last time out and was given an easy time of things on the front end under Richard Kingscote. He has everything go in his favour that day at one of the most front-running biased tracks in the country with the best Haydock jockey on board, and though he did win well, I don't think it's particularly strong form. Also, I get the impression he'd be better on slower ground as he appears to have a high knee action and that's normally suited to horses with juice underfoot.
Tafreej looked the most interesting runner in this race as he is stepping up a mile for the first time and based on his running style and pedigree it should suit him perfectly. He always seems to get rolling too late into his 7f races and he doesn't quite have the pace to travel into the races and then show the turn of foot, but he runs on well so the extra furlong should be right up his street. I thought his run at Chester last time out was very good considering he didn't get a clear run from the rear when turning around the bend and had to weave through the pack to finish fourth. I think there's juice in his handicap mark 84 and there should be more to come over today's trip on a more conventional track.
Newmarket 8:45 – First Sight 9/4 (2pt Bet365)
A tricky little contest full of unexposed horses who will be better than their current marks, but the one which stuck out to me was First Sight who has a superb pedigree and I think a mark of 90 looks well within reach.
It can be awkward backing a horse on turf debut after shining on the AW but the pedigree would suggest that First Sight should have no complications in running well on the turf. He is by Dubawi and out of Phiz who is a Galileo mare, so there's plenty to like and no doubt has the best pedigree in this race, which isn't a surprise for a Godolphin horse. I think from his second and third run he has been impressive. He beat his odds-on-fav stablemate at Kempton under a patient Jamie Spencer ride. He cruised through that race and could've won by many more lengths than 1.75L, recording an RPR of 92, but looking very smart in the process. His next run over 10f at Lingfield recorded a lower RPR, but I thought it was a good effort. He showed greenness when hitting the front, by wandering around but was clearly on top at the line, looking to have plenty more in the tank. What I like the most about this horse is that he has a good turn of foot, which often separates horses at a decent level, and I think it will be a good weapon on turf.
I like the double.

Was it Win Lion or something I had on few Saturdays ago that Appleby done much the same with one of his horses?
Had 3 AW wins but obvious questions about turf but took to it no problem and won at 10/1. So sure Appelby and First Sight be fine and being backed to favourite now.
Tafreej for me too but as you stated few decent types in the race
