Racing tips: Drying ground will suit Bolthole in the Group 3 at Deauville

Saturday was a good day with two winners including the 2pt NAP Al Aasy getting up in final strides to win at Haydock. It's a shame not all 3 won, but Pride Of Priory wasn't close to winning, and I'm not quite sure why that horse ran so badly.

Deauville 4:00 – Bolthole 7/4 (1pt)

We have some racing in the UK on Sunday and a class 1 race in Ireland at the Curragh but nothing really stands out as a worthy bet. There's normally good class 1 action in Europe on Sunday and today is no different as Deauville has a host of Group races and I like the look of an ex-UK-trained horse called Bolthole.

This horse was previously trained by Michael Bell but is currently in France trained by A De Mieulle. He has improved since leaving Bell's yard and he has already won two listed races in France this year after his decent spell in the middle east which saw him finish 3rd in a high profile and high pot Local Group 1 won by Russian Emperor. That was a good effort in theory as Bolthole had Broome behind him that day and we all know what a consistent performer Broome has been over the years, so to finish 3rd in that race rates as good form to my eyes.

The Racing Post is claiming the ground is soft at Deauville, but I think that is nonsense and very lazy reporting. TurfTrax is saying the ground is good and they update their website very frequently with updates from the people working at the course. The ground will be quick by the time of racing begins as there is some warm weather hitting Deauville and I think that will be perfect for Bolthole. He has done most of his best performances on quick ground and I'm convinced it was quicker than good to soft at Vichy last time out, even though it was stated as GTS on RP. He finished 2nd to the English raider One For Bobby, and I think that's a decent effort. The winner was 3rd to the recent Group 1 winner at Goodwood, Al Husn with Nashwa in 2nd place. Soumillon was riding the winner at Vichy but is back on board Bolthole today and if the joint fav isn't as good as what I believe, Bolthole will mop up the winnings.
