Nick Williams did a terrific job with his gelding last season, notching six victories from seven starts, the last two coming at Cheltenham in March and April. Siruh Du Lac produced an exhibition round of jumping to fend off talented Janika and Spiritofthegames at the Festival, battling on with great courage when challenged up the hill. He defied a 280-day absence to score first time out last year so is the type to go well fresh. Slate House recaptured his old zing when trotting up here in a Novices’ Chase last month and steps into handicap company at a lofty level.
WEST APPROACH (1.50) remains well handicapped and should give a prominent show in the 3m 3f Chase. Colin Tizzard’s gelding had Cogry two lengths adrift in third when chasing home The Condiitonal three weeks ago.
THE BUTCHER SAID (3.00) makes his handicap debut in the 3m Handicap Hurdle and he ran as well as expected when chasing home well-treated Ramses De Teillee three weeks ago. That halted a winning streak of four and The Butcher Said is a bit of value over Tobefair and Smackwater Jack. He should be bet each-way.
JATILUWIH (3.30) must go close in the 2m 5f handicap hurdle. Philip Hobbs has placed him well to win his last four races and his latest victory at Wetherby looks pretty good on the back of the winner’s second in a decent contest at Warwick.
