Ludlow fell to the morning inspection yesterday and the NAP of the day Gabriel's Getaway was a NR, which was always a possibility after winning the day before.

Doncaster 1:05 – Golden Town 10/1 (0.5pt EW)

To kickstart the day at Doncaster we have a Conditional Jockeys' handicap hurdle class 5 (0-100), so not much class is involved in this race. I've gone for the ex-class horse in the race, GOLDEN TOWN who is now at an age of 12 and hasn't won since 2020, but if he can bounce back to any form at all, he is surely overpriced at odds of 10/1.

The form of his race where he finished 4th/8 in a better handicap than this in August has worked out well, it has produced some winners, whereas I'm fairly certain this race won't unless one of the unexposed ones has been ridiculously well hidden in their previous races. He then ran a nice race up in a Class 3, where he wasn't disgraced, then went over 2m 4f which was never going to suit, and then ran a fairly poor race at Uttoxeter. He's not been seen since (October) probably due to the ground getting worse, as he likes good ground, and he comes back again for another season. The ground will be perfect for him and I think this grade of race will make him show he is better than this bad bunch, especially off a handicap mark of 93 which is 12lbs lower than when running well in that Sedgefield race which has worked out quite well.

Charlotte Jones is a terrific conditional jockey, personally one of my favourites and as long as the horse is fit and ready after a break, which James Moffatt is more than capable of doing, he is surely an EW player at the very least.

Doncaster 4:00 – Heroique De Maulde 2/1 (1pt win)

I'm probably going to be kicking myself for backing HEROIQUE DE MAULDE due to a certain Brian Hughes doing the steering, but his chances of winning are there for all to see.

His form looks very good and makes him a very attractive bet in my eyes and looks like a horse who is ahead of the handicapper but things haven't gone right for him in the areas that matter, and that is just before the finishing line. However, they've opted for the wind operation, which sort of makes sense without knowing the ins and outs of the horse as he is such a strong traveller through his races but he doesn't seem to finish his races off, which is normally a sign of a problem with a horses wind.

This is probably one of the tougher assignments he's had, but I don't think his most recent race was an easy one, but he was cruising through that race. If he manages to finish his race off today, he could take some stopping, as long as that man on top of him doesn't give him a rubbish ride.

Huntingdon 2:25 – Concetto 7/2 (1pt win)

Rostello will be a big player in this contest now he is back into a Class 5 race, having won 3 of the last 4 when doing so, but I will take a chance on chasing debutante, CONCETTO.

Though Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero's 6yo didn't manage to win a PTP race, he ran well in them and well enough to suggest he would be better when sent over the larger obstacles. Obviously, the training partnership have seen what he's capable of at home over fences and believes the same as me as they've not messed around and have sent him over fences on his fourth start for the yard. I think it has to be noted that he goes chasing on his handicap debut, not just over fences, but his handicap debut over rules. They've decided not to hang around over hurdles where he would get some more experience and potentially get a few wins, they clearly think a mark of 100 is a mark which this horse can win off and are straight up going for it.

I wouldn't say this is a particularly bad race for the grade, but it's a winnable race for a chase debut.

Ffos 3:08 – Dentley De Mee 3/1 (1pt win)

DENTLEY DE MEE is getting on in age but he looks ready to pounce on what is a very low handicap mark of 108.

He was previously trained by Nick Williams where he had a good career, getting into the handicap marks of 130 at one stage but his form tailed off. Nick Williams packed in training and moved to France and Venetia Williams has acquired Dentley De Mee where he has run two good races for his new yard, especially last time out where he must've traded a very low price when he was eventually reeled back in by the Sean Bowen horse, who probably will get ride of the season.

Dentley De Mee went up a few pounds for that respected runner-up finish, but that shouldn't be enough to stop him in this. A repeat performance will see him tough to beat, even off top weight.

Looking ahead to Cheltenham and looking for some sort of ‘value’ which hasn’t been easy.

The winner of the first race at naas this Saturday (1.05) has gone on to win 3 of the last 4 runnings of the Boodles.
Many of the horses running in this years renewal have already raced against each other or have run against another horse that you can take collateral form from.
2 horses that have run against Calico are Metamorpheus and Sir Allen. Meta beat Calico by 7 1/4L on heavy ground whilst SA beat him by 2L yet the latter has a higher RPR.
Another horse in the race on Saturday is Byker for Charles Byrnes and is around 12/1 for the Boodles. Byker finished 2 3/4L behind Metamorpheus 2 runs ago yet Metamorpheus is 25/1 NRNB or 33/1 antepost.
Metamorpheus has since moved to Paul Nolans yard and the race on Saturday is named after his late father.
He’s also a full brother to Sailors Warn who was placed in a grade 1. The previous trainer stated the Boodles would be his target and also said he’d have no problem handling spring ground.
I’ve taken the 25/1 NRNB for him as if he does go on to win or run well in defeat he won’t be that price after the race.
