Ingra Tor was terrible at Thirsk. Not sure what happened, but it seemed too bad to be true, he never really travelled with any zest and he didn't pick up. Maybe something will come out after the race, but I'd be surprised if there weren't any problems.
Sandown 2:25 – Potapova 7/1 (0.5pt EW Bet365)
Heredia is definitely the correct favourite for this race based on her recent runaway victory at Haydock, and I think you can argue she is very good odds at 3/1 or slightly above. But, I also believe my selection, Potapova is good value and is priced EW so I think she is worth a chance against the favourite.
Potapova has always had tonned of ability, she has a tendency to start slowly and break badly out of the gates which ruins her chances on a lot of occasions, but when it all lands she is a dangerous horse to underestimate as we saw in this race 12 months ago when the market completely disregarded her and she won at 18/1. I remember watching that race last year and thinking about how has she gone off at those odds, but also how did she manage to make up the ground, but she did win and she stayed on well up the Sandown hill, clearly appreciating this track, so I think a return to this track will be advantageous.
The 3yo's in this race don't look special and I think you've got to avoid them. Coppice is well overhyped in my opinion, she was put in her place at Newmarket in a tough Group 1, she won nicely at Royal Ascot time before but the runner-up was smoked by Heredia last time around, so based on the collateral form, she also has a bit to find. Queen For You just isn't that good I believe. I tipped her up on debut where she looked good, but in hindsight the form is pretty poor and she's been disappointing since. Midnight Mile would be interesting if this was over 10f, but I think the drop back to a mile isn't going to suit.
Potapova needs fast ground, and that is what she should be getting at Sandown. There are a few drops of rain forecast to fall, but with the ground already being good to firm I can't imagine that will change the going description, which should set it up perfectly for Potapova to have a great chance of winning this race for the second year running.
Beverley 2:40 – Kerdos 3/1 (1pt Bet365)
The Beverley Bullet is the main race at Beverley every year (I'd like to think) and it's been a race I've done well in the last couple of years as on both occasions I tipped up Tis Marvellous and he won both renewals. That horse is back to try and land the hat-trick, personally, I think he's got a very small chance of winning it as he's very out of form, but I like the look of his stablemate, Kerdos.
I've already put up Kerdos once before this season and he was well below par and ran below the level I was expecting at York when he stepped into Class 1 level for the first time. However, he then finished 5th/11 in the Group 2 at Glorious Goodwood which was won by Highfield Princess. That was a return to form, and I think this race at Beverley is much easier than the race at Goodwood and if he can run anywhere to the level of his Royal Ascot runner-up performance then he could be very tough to beat.
I think this type of track will be suited to him massively. He does his best running at the end of the 5f, so the stiff tracks is something that is going to suit him and with Clive Cox having a great record in this race in recent years, I think it would be crazy to doubt him with Kerdos as he wouldn't be bringing him for the banter, I think he knows this horse has a very solid chance. I'd like to see Ben Curtis take a positive position on him, as from Stall 1 you don't want to be penned in on the rail when the race gets serious.
