Churchill & Cracksman for me tomorrow in a double.

  4. Johnb 7 years ago

Seems everyone is tipping Barney Roy, they will have to pray the rain stays away but this is where I see if I was right to say Churchill would get The Derby distance, I have no doubts and even connections are coming round to the idea of him staying

Should manage a write up later

    • recoba 7 years ago

After his win in the Guineas John i thought this distance like you say in the Derby would have been perfect. Glad to you n Jimron are with me I’m on at 10/3(wee R/FC Barney Roy)
Im thinking of having a double with Cracksman.
Any thoughts on that double Johnb,it be appreciated. Already got the double on I suppose in my Trixie but may go in again with increased stake but obviously dangerous but really fancy it at 6.8/1 Bet365.

      Trixie for tomorrow…

      Churchill..3.35. 10/3(single)
      Bee Ex Dee…2.25. 9/4
      Cracksman…3.00. 4/5. Treble pays 24/1 Bet365

GL all today a good days racing ahead. ?

    • Johnb 7 years ago

I do like Cracksman today but odds are a bit short, my only concern was Douglas Macarthur who I thought was too big odds and certainly has a good chance of winning

    Barney Roy 3/1.
    Nap / NB

Every man and his dog for Churchill , (at the races , oddschecker, most on here. )
    I would fancy a Barney /Cliffs o M 1-2 finish.

Still on a break so not giving points or counting for points
But BARNEY is my first bet for 3 weeks – COME ON BARNEY

Expect it to go off 5/2 or 9/4 as the clever money comes in late.
    Good luck everyone today. ?

Half asleep writing that. I meant Churchill :-)

  13. Johnb 7 years ago

As we all probably know Churchill was my 2000 Guineas tip for this year and he duly obliged but I had also advised him to win The Derby, he didn’t run as connections weren’t convinced he would get the distance, the 1m 4f at Epsom is a pretty easy distance to get, if you stay 1m 2f virtually anywhere else then you will stay in The Derby, he steps up November 1m for the first time today to a distance of 1m 2 1/2f so today we will see if I was right, connections have said they believe he will stay now but I have no doubts at all
Last time out for Churchill it was pretty plain to see that he wasn’t right, connections think it was the combination of the hot Day and the travelling over from Ireland that took its toll, even with that last run Churchill comes into this race with the best form which was the 2000 Guineas and then the Irish 2000 Guineas as top form also, the pace in the race is hard to figure out as I don’t see where it’s coming from so it could be a slower pace race which I wouldn’t like to see,
as I say I see him relishing the extra distance and he is the one to beat as I say he is the best horse in the race

Cracking race the best horse doesn’t always win

  18. jimron12 7 years ago

Ground suited Ulysses more than Churchill I feel

  19. billy boy 7 years ago

How is that davidmc83 I bet Churchill but it was quite clear for anybody to see by the way Ulysses traveled during the race the best horse won the race no excuses for Barney or Churchill

    • elvis parsley 7 years ago

And he was giving the 3 year olds weight.

Barney and Churchill were at it way out and Ulysses was being held back, lurking like a viper stalking its prey, then he won with a bit in hand in my opinion.
Think they should keep Barney and Churchill under wraps until next season as both peaked earlier in the season.
      Great race though.

    • billy boy 7 years ago

3 year olds also have a shocking record in the race and Stoute has a superb record why did we not all back Ulysses lol probably because we thought the 3 year olds were above average maybe there not Barney Roy IMO was gave a shocking ride by Doyle and was softened up by Cliffs of Moher basically giving both no chance of winning that leaves Churchill who looked one paced and got the step up in trip no problem maybe the ground blunted it’s speed but that would have been the same for Ulysses who was gave the best ride and best horse on the day.

  20. davidmc83 7 years ago

I don’t know how that is Billy boy I am just stating a fact that the best horse doesn’t always win the race there could be loads of reasons why ?

  21. Johnb 7 years ago

elvis parsley well done for mentioning Barney & Churchill battling from way out but I don’t agree they peaked earlier in the season
That performance today matched the 2000 Guineas of not bettered it, both handled the ground fine and Churchill certainly stayed the distance,

The better horse on the day won but that was due to Barney & Churchill both doing the donkey work by battling each other from a long way out and actually cutting each other’s throats in the process but well done to Jim Crowley and Ulysses who sat back and picked up the scraps
Ulysses was another horse I flagged up earlier in the season who I thought would have a good year and Cliffs Of Moher proves I was right in saying he was a poor Derby first string for O’Brien

    • elvis parsley 7 years ago

And also the fact Churchill stayed on in soft probably means he would have won the derby comfortably as distance wasn’t a problem and the field was garbage in classic terms in my opinion.

Sad thing is we will never know.

    • Johnb 7 years ago

I agree and as you say we will never know but I have never doubted Churchill would stay
What people have to realise is that just because I am not high profile doesn’t mean I don’t know my stuff
One phrase that gets used a lot is “do I think I know more than certain Trainers?”
Well in all honesty maybe I do but I certainly believe in my own judgement

It is very possible and if Clemmie wins the Moyglare she will be 7/4ish for the 1000 Guineas
