Mixed runs for yesterday's selections. The first pick, Maketh Believeth ran well, finished 2nd, and bumped into a 20/1 winner. As for King Eagle, no words can describe that performance other than he's clearly not very talented.
Nottingham 4:30
A mark of 93 is definitely within reach for David O'Meara's latest French recruit, DARKNESS, who made his seasonal reappearance and stable debut in the Lincoln at Doncaster 11 days ago. There was a bit of early money floating around for him, but he did take a walk in the market before the off, which gave the impression it wasn't all about that day, and it was more of a run for fitness. With that run under his belt, I think that he could strike in this much weaker race, with a 2lb taken off by the handicapper for his run in the Lincoln, and now the cheekpieces are back on, which were used for one of his wins in France.
This doesn't look a particularly strong race, with the Ed Dunlop trained Arthur's Realm heading the market, which you can't argue with. He looked good last time out, but he has won off 81 2x before, and gone close another time, and that is his highest winning mark, so this could be a struggle for him, against better horses. Fame And Acclaim is 0/7 since moving to Les Eyre's stable, and hasn't looked like changing those stats, though he is becoming well handicapped, there is a reason for that.
Darkness has some decent bits of form in France, and is a horse that David O'Meara normally does very well with. David had a couple of winners the other day, so it appears that his horses are finding their feet at the start of the flat turf season.
Lingfield 5:10
I tipped up COOL VIXEN a week ago at this track, but over a furlong shorter. I thought he was going to be very tough to beat that day, so to see him finish runner-up was a tough one to take. It was evident that he needed further, so the return to a mile is the correct decision in my opinion. James Doyle is on board again, and even though this race is up in class, I think he should be tough to beat in this.
