FANNIE BY GASLIGHT (4.50) attracted some hefty wagers at Chester last Saturday and duly hosed up on soft ground. Mick Channon brings her out quickly under a 5lb penalty at Ayr and his filly is worth supporting.
Stall 12 is hardly ideal but there should be plenty of pace on with the likes of Iron Mike in the line-up and Tom Eaves can drop in from his wide draw. Top weight Addis Ababa rarely runs a bad race and could build on his most recent second to Scottish Summit at Redcar.
Keith Dalgleish saddled ICONIC CODE (5.20) to score over course and distance last October (soft) and his filly races off the same mark in the 1m 2f finale, with cheek-pieces applied this time. Her third to Welcoming at Hamilton looks just as strong a piece of form as that recorded by Gordon Elliott’s favourite House Call at the Lanarkshire track and Iconic Code rates a first-class each-way bet at 8-1 with bet 365 (four places).
FOREVER A LADY (3.50) rarely runs a bad race at Ayr and she is fancied to land a modest 7f handicap for trainer Keith Dalgleish and owner Ken McGarrity. The six-year-old has returned course form figures this season of 3-3-5-1-3 and that wins her the vote, especially with her preference for a soft surface.
CHINESE SPIRIT (1.50) is one more Ayr regular and Linda Perratt’s gelding produced another consistent effort when third to Bardo Contiguo and Ascot Week. The grey is trading at a generous each-way price of 9-1 with Paddy Power. Remmy D has been in rattling form at Hamilton and should ensure a strong gallop. Stall 13 is a negative and Irish raider Kinch may prove a more serious rival.
The Class 3 handicap over seven furlongs is yet another competitive affair with REDARNA (4.20) capable of defying a 2lb rise if able to reproduce the form of his close second to Wise Counsel over course and distance at the Western meeting. Odds of 15-2 with William Hill are too tempting to resist each-way. Young Fire showed a good attitude to score at Haydock and has the beating of Get Knotted on that run.
