ARMCHAIR fans of the all-weather racing scene are in for a Good Friday horse racing treat, with ITV screening nine races, split between Lingfield and Newcastle.
AMADE (2.00) is strongly fancied to kick-off the party by landing the Betway Marathon Conditions Stakes for Marco Botti. The gelding has won his last five starts and was particularly impressive last time at Chelmsford City when hacking up from Elegiac.
The runner-up has since landed the Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham. The tight turns and short straight at Lingfield are not ideal for confirmed hold-up stayer Amade, but he should outclass his rivals granted a smooth passage.
With all this week's climate change protests taking place in London, GLOBAL WARNING (2.45) would be a most appropriate winner of the 7f handicap at Newcastle. Gerald Mosse gets the leg up on Ed Dunlop's three-year-old, a fine third to John Gosden's Daarik in a novice stakes at Kempton.
Daarik is the overnight favourite for the Listed contest on the card, so Global Warning could be well treated on his handicap debut.
SMARTER (4.25) landed a gamble in most emphatic fashion at Southwell and has been raised a stone for his trouble. The William Haggas-trained gelding beat absolutely nothing of note but looked a horse with bags of middle-distance potential. Smarter may be able to account for Bo Samraan, Fox Fearless and the slightly disappointing Gantier.
ISLAND BRAVE (3.55) is a big each-way price in the Betway Casino Handicap. He is a course and distance winner and was drawn very wide at Kempton last time when fourth to this afternoon's favourite Forbidden Planet, a three-time winner for Roger Charlton.
Island Brave enjoys a big pull in the weights.
