Not a great Sunday if truth be told, with all of the selections probably running below par. Broome ran a decent enough race, but I was confident of a win from him and 4/1 looked like good odds. As for the other two, Homeless Songs looked a little babyish, and she will be a nice filly in the future as she gets more experience. Mooneista was very disappointing, and I don't think she's ran her race at all. The winner of that race was convincingly beaten by Mooneista the time before, which makes the result even more confusing.
The racing today looks pretty dire, so just the one selection from me.
Brighton 2:10
The decision to drop back to 6f should hopefully allow GREAT NEWS to return to form, as his best form has come over this trip.
Though this son of Shamardal has the pedigree to stay further than 6f, and arguably be better over a longer trip, it doesn't seem the case. Great News has had a tendency to take a strong hold at times, which has been on display when he raced over 7f, so the drop back in trip should allow him to settle better as a faster pace will be set.
His form behind Akkeringa at Newmarket has worked out quite well, with the 3rd and 4th winning since, and the winner ran well in a Class 3. In that race, Great News ran a good race, as he was towards the rear on the rail and was a bit short of room. When he found a gap between horses, he slowly made progress, but didn't stay on strong enough to challenge the winner. Since then he was tried over 7f, and the form of his most recent run where he was convincingly beaten by 4 lengths, has worked out well, as the winner has followed up twice.
This race has a couple of course specialists, who will be dangerous to underestimate, but I feel like this unexposed horse could offer a little more off his current handicap mark of 82. Saeed Bin Suroor has a good record at this track, so the fact that this horse has never ran at the track, it shouldn't be an issue as he places his horses well at this venue. He has a 31% SR at this track, which is 5 wins from 16 runners, and is 3/10 with 3yo's at this track.
