Family Business was a very bad runner for the only selection of the day on Wednesday. No excuses for him, as he appeared to jump soundly all the way round, but his rise in the weights and coming against classier horses seemed to have caught him out.
Wincanton 4:10
The price available for EL PASO WOOD is ridiculous, but I think there's still value left in the 5/2 or 11/4. His performance last time out at Wincanton was the win of a horse who was well ahead of his handicap mark.
The 8yo was raised 10lbs by the handicapper for his 34L romp, which could be lenient. The 10lb rise will obviously make this race a lot tougher than his previous one, but it appeared that he had so much more to give, and plenty in hand. This is the same grade race in which he won lto, so there's no reason why he can't repeat that run at a track which clearly suits. The ground is slightly quicker, but he seemed to bounce of slightly slower ground, which gives the impression this won't be an issue. His win came off a weight of 9st 12lbs last time, and he gets into this off another low weight of 10st 6lbs when Philip Armson's 7lb claim is taken into consideration, which will make life easier for him despite the 10lb rise. He will track the leaders again, or potentially go from the front, and I believe he will have too many gears for the opposition, who will struggle to go with him when approaching the final half mile.
I think there could be plenty to come from this progressive 8yo, especially over these kind of trips on ground which isn't too testing. He was a winner on very soft ground in France, but over this kind of trip, he hasn't been seen to best effect, but he appeared to appreciate a faster surface last time out.

He finished behind today’s favourite ateem twice early last year (but that one’s form tailed off), carries top weight and hasn’t had a run yet which are negatives
He’s also switched yards but a repeat of his autumn form in this company gives him a great chance
Utter rubbish. Jeez this racing lark is hard going this year or is it my mind degenerating along with my hairline 🙃

Turfway-R3…Malpais 11/10. (Tracker horse and getyourtipsout NAP amongst others,won 7 in a row most of which I’ve been on but also including a stinker on penultimate run. Came out last run but and win by 7 lengths (27/12/21) which I missed so getting on this early even though it goes off very late)
Gulfstream-R3…Gloucester 2/1 (beat my horse by 7l on impressive debut last run and Saez stays on board. Up against better here but should go very close?)

How the jockey has managed to not win that I’ll never know. He’ll not want to rewatch that one back tonight. The end winner was going backwards at one stage while El Paso hadn’t even been asked the question yet.
Although he didn’t find much off the bridle in the position he was I didn’t feel he needed to. Jockey spent more time looking over his shoulder ( Jamie Spencer behaviour )
Jockey should of took the race by the scruff, took the horse up a gear and put that race to bed well before the last.
Went from looking like the ride of the day to the worst ride I’ve seen in months…
