IT’S HARD to know where to begin when there are well over 60 races today in the UK and Ireland but if nothing else we must admit that we are spoiled for choice.
The high profile race of the day is the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown where Enable makes her long-awaited return to the racecourse. She should win comfortably but it’s her first race of the season and her main target this season is the Arc at Longchamp in October so bear that in mind before lumping on at odds on today.
There are four picks that I like for today with two at Sandown and two at Haydock. People will be sick to death of me banging on about Danny Tudhope but he is an absolute class act operating at the peak of his powers as we found out at Ascot a few weeks ago. Looking at the Haydock card he has some cracking rides and could easily end up with another two or three winners.
The first Tudhope mount that I fancy is THEMAXWECAN who he rides for Mark Johnston. The horse drops down from group class into this handicap and has tons of potential at this level, particularly returned to firmer ground which should suit nicely.
I’m not sure if ESCOBAR has been sent to try me or not but it certainly feels that way. I’ve backed him several times including at this time of the season last year when he looked like a very unlucky horse in several races. He returns here a good deal lower than he was last year and I’m giving him one last chance to get his head in front. Andrea Atzeni takes the ride for the first time which might be a nice change for the horse. He also has ideal conditions to suit today on a nice low handicap mark.
My second Danny Tudhope horse for today is KLASSIQUE who he rides for trainer William Haggas. She is the highest rated horse in the race and won over course and distance last time. I also think that there is a strong chance she will improve for better ground which will make her current price look comical.
This could be a very interesting race. There are quite a few who won last time out so it could prove to be a very competitive heat. The one that I like at a decent price is AMJAADY who still has loads of potential and won nicely over this distance last time. James Doyle is a very eyecatching booking too.
