I ENDED up with two winners on Boxing Day after Commanche Red hosed up in the first ITV race (12-1 into 4-1 at the off) and Honest Vic (10-1) did likewise in the last race at Kempton. That one was a late addition to the column so it pays to check out the Gambla podcast and the tips published here on mrfixitstips.co.uk.
Part 2 of the Christmas Jumpers podcast is available so give it a listen for my thoughts on today's racing along with those of my special guest Chris Dickson who has tipped one at 100-1 that actually isn't as crazy as it looks. We are also in total agreement on our selection for the 1.35pm at Chepstow so apologies in advance to connections of that horse!
My tips are summarised here:
1.05pm Chepstow
This is a simple one – ECEPARTI is the progressive unexposed horse for in-form Venetia Williams and should win comfortably.
1.20pm Kempton
I'm backing FANION D'ESTRUVAL to get the ITV coverage off to a bang for Venetia with two winners in the first two races. This one gets a 4 year old weight allowance and conditions should be ideal.
1.35pm Chepstow
TAVUS looks the clear value bet against the top two in the market. His form from Newcastle is rock solid.
1.55pm Kempton
This is my best bet of the month. I think MISS TYNTE should be close to favourite for this race given her step up in form over 3 miles last time. She has so much more to come over staying trips and can take this race. I expect a gamble from the Pipe yard so get the price while you can.
2.10pm Chepstow
PERFECT MAN is my each way selection in this race given his course and distance win. I thought he would be a shorter price.
2.30pm Kempton
NO BET for me in this race but it should be a brilliant race to watch. If you had to push me I would go for Sceau Royal.
2.5opm Chepstow (Welsh Grand National)
The Welsh National looks like it could be a gruelling race again this year and there won't be many who finish it strongly. The one I like is CAPTAIN CHAOS who carries a low racing weight and has pieces of form which suggest he will enjoy the conditions. Of the ones at the top of the market I probably prefer Yala Enki but my concern is the amount of weight that he needs to carry over this marathon trip.
3.05pm Kempton
I tipped HIGHWAY ONE O ONE two starts back in the BetVictor Gold Cup but he unseated Tom Cannon early on. I think he still has some juice in his handicap mark now that he is 1lb lower and with Chris Gordon in brilliant form just now (see Commanche Red yesterday) I'm hoping the extra distance will bring out improvement in this horse.
