4.50 Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle
Friday 19 March | Age: 4yo+ | Prize: £70,000
The Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle, for conditional jockeys, is run in the name of the 15-time champion trainer who saddled no fewer than 34 Cheltenham Festival winners. His son David Pipe is yet to win the race, however.
Voice of Value's Tips
I think there is a chance that LANGER DAN is absolutely thrown in here. He won at Sandown like he had just joined the race at the second last hurdle and only carries a 5lb penalty here.
There are other well-handicapped horses and there are questions over whether this race comes too soon but I do need to have a small win bet on him just in case he bolts up. 6-1 is fair and we can take that with one of the ‘Best Odds Guaranteed' bookies in the hope that there is a drift.
My main selection though is one at a bit of a bigger price. FRONTAL ASSAULT is a really progressive horse and if you ignore his poor run two starts ago (trainer blamed first time blinkers firing him up thus running too keen) then his form reads like that of a very progressive young horse.
Jordan Gainford seems to be very well-regarded in Ireland and gets the ride here so that is probably a positive too.
I think Frontal Assault looks a likely type for the race and is too big at 20-1.

- Langer Dan 2pt win at 6-1 with Ladbrokes (BOG)
- Frontal Assault 1.5pt ew at 20-1 with Ladbrokes (5 places and BOG)
Alan Thomson's Tips
LANGER DAN scored with plenty in hand at Sandown last weekend and Dan Skelton’s Imperial Cup winner is sure to prove popular chasing a £50,000 bonus. He finished sixth in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle last year, staying on from a poor position, and has benefited from a wind operation in the interim.
Deadly duo McManus and Mullins team up again, this time with French recruit Gentleman De Mee. The five-year-old lacks experience but had no trouble landing the odds on stable debut at Naas last month.
Mullins has another useful French import in Galopin Des Champs, a 100-1 shot when a respectable sixth to Appreciate It at Leopardstown, so it will be interesting to observe market expectations.
