1.30 Turners Novices' Chase
Thursday 17 March | Age: 5yo+| Prize: £98,472
The Turners Novices’ Chase (registered as the Golden Miller Novices’ Chase) is a Grade 1 National Hunt Chase that takes place on the New Course at Cheltenham with a distance of two miles and four furlongs.
Turners Novices' Chase Betting Tips
To kick-start Day 3 of the Festival, we have a pretty disappointing Turners Novices’ Chase, with just the four runners taking part when in reality it’s between two. Once again, people will argue that it doesn’t matter about the size of the field as the two-class horses have turned up, but surely, we could’ve had a few more in this race who could possibly put up a fight.
Personally, this is a no bet race for me unless there is a market for what I want, which might be available on the day of racing, which I’ll come to later. BOB OLINGER is the slight favourite at the time of writing, and if an EVS money shot when the race is between two horses is good value for you, then crack on, but for me, I’d rather watch the two novices race it out. For me, Bob Olinger hasn’t been as impressive over fences as GALOPIN DES CHAMPS, as he hasn’t been as accurate over fences as his rival. In terms of talent, you’d probably say Bob Olinger has more ability, but as a natural over fences, I think Willie’s horse has shown that so far. If I was to have a gun to my head and asked who’d win this, I’d probably say Bob Olinger, on the chance that if his jumping does improve, he could be tough to beat.
I love Galopin Des Champs, and I think he will be better over further, I keep looking at the King George Antepost market with him in it (currently he’s not priced up) as I think that race looks tailor-made for him. He has a high cruising speed, jumps well, and stays well, something you need at Kempton.
Referring to my bet in this race if it’s even possible. I think if you can get a match bet between the outsiders, BUSSELTON will beat EL BARRA into third. The form he has shown is much better than El Barra, and the fact he is bigger odds is a big ludicrous in my opinion. If you can find that option, I think it could be worth taking, and potentially used in your Day 3 accumulators.
