RACE three on day one is the Ultima Handicap Chase run over 3m 110 yards and has in the past been a guide to the Grand National, a big field and a big priced winner probably. It would take too long to go through all horses so just a small write-up on a few.
Ultima Handicap Chase 2.40 Tuesday 14th March
Doing Fine – Neil Mulholland 20-1 10bet
Not the best of jumpers but will be suited to the fast pace guaranteed by the large field, too big a price for a horse improving with every run. I really liked his last run at Sandown in December when beat a neck by Rocky Creek but as I said does need to jump better.
Henri Parry Morgan – Peter Bowen 16-1 10bet
I have had my eye on this horse for a while now but again he needs to jump better. We can keep going back to his close second to Native River at Aintree last season but in most of his races since then he has been running well till making a mistake and it’s because of his jumping that he is as big as 20-1.
Our Kaempfer – Charlie Longsdon 11-1 10bet
He had shown promise before rewarding his followers last time with a win, he is still progressing and a 148 rating doesn’t look too bad.
Mall Dini – Patrick Kelly 12-1 10bet
Won at the festival last year for me at 16-1 in the Pertemps, he jumps well and travelled well last time at Fairyhouse when beat by a couple of decent horses. Better ground is the key to this horse and should get it at the festival.
It’s a difficult race because we really just don’t know what will be running but at this early stage with NRNB I would be going with DOING FINE but that could change closer to the day.
- None as yet but I do like Doing Fine at 20-1 but that could change
