RACE five on day two is the Cross Country Chase, run over three miles seven furlongs it’s a race that a lot of top jockeys don’t like to run in because of the risk that they could take a wrong course.
Cross Country Chase
Any Currency – Martin Keighley 11-1 10bet
Winner of this race last year but later disqualified after a banned substance was detected in a urine test. At 14yo he would still be seen to having a chance although his two runs this season are pretty poor.
Cantlow – Enda Bolger 7-4 10bet
Antepost favourite and 10th last year but has looked a better horse this season, with good wins at Punchestown in November and Cheltenham in December. He was beaten last time which was a shock but was well clear of the rest so it was probably just one of those days when another horse ran a blinder. He is favourite and it’s hard to see him getting beat.
Urgent De Gregaine – E Clayeux 8-1 10bet
Lightly raced horse who had done virtually nothing until beating Cantlow last time when 50-1. Can we judge his form though? Well it’s hard because his form in France doesn’t look too clever but last time out he didn’t do anything wrong, if I am honest though I think it was a flash in the pan and 6-1 looks to have no value whatsoever.
Foxrock – Ted Walsh 10-1 10bet
Will he turn up or is he just being set up for National glory? Well the owner says he won’t be going for the Cross Country, just take a moment to feel for the people who are taking the 10-1 for him in the Cross Country and don’t even know they won’t be getting a run for their money.
