It’s great to see this great race with such a good history, full of runners and it makes it a thrilling watch. SHISHKIN looks very tough to beat, especially on a track that will bring out his stamina.

Shishskin and ENERGUMENE put on one of the best races we’ve seen in a long time. It was a match between them, but they put everything on the line, and that is what racing is all about. There are too much of horses not taking on the best, and it happens all the time.

It took us ages to see Altior vs Cyrname, so to see these two great horses take each other on in their prime was great to see. Personally, I don’t think Shishskin will be beaten in this, and if anything could, then it would be Energumene.

Shishkin can sometimes jump a little funny, and that happened at Ascot last time, but he has such a big engine and that got him out of trouble. He is very similar to Altior, in the way that he finds more up the hill than any other horse in this division.

CHACUN POUR SOI makes the journey over for the Champion Chase again, which is a little bit of a surprise, as he never seems to travel over to the UK very well. His form when he races at home is much better than when he comes over, so I’d have thought they’d have stayed and fought out the prizes in Ireland. Fair play to connections for giving it a go, but for me, he is better in Ireland, especially Leopardstown.

I saw something on Twitter the other day which made me laugh, and it’s a very true comment. If you went in a coma over the last year and only just came out of it, you’d have been shocked to see ENVOI ALLEN at around 25/1 for a race. It’s quite sad, but the downward spiral of this horse has been quite immense since leaving Gordon Elliot, and he has very little chance in this race today, but for a horse with so much potential, he deserves a mention.

A horse who could pick up a place is FUNAMBULE SIVOLA who has had a cracking season for Venetia Williams. This horse pushed Shishskin all the way last year in April when finishing 3.25L behind him, that was the best race Shishskin had up until the Ascot race, with no real contenders, so that’s a positive for this horse.

This year he has contested some handicaps, winning one, as well as not staying in another at Cheltenham off top weight, but his win at Newbury against Sceau Royal looked good on the eye. Sceau Royal is a good yardstick, who is a very good horse on good ground and often runs well in this race, where he finished 5^th last year and 3^rd in 2019. If you can get a bet on w/o the first two favourites, then that would be my best in the race.
