Weatherbys Champion Bumper

  • This race is run on the flat – no hurdles or fences
  • 2 miles
  • Younger horses tend to run in this race before moving on to hurdles races the following year
  • The race has a good record of winners who go on to become good hurdlers and chasers

Fiercely competitive stuff with the best of the young Irish and British contenders clashing. Much of the research for this race involves listening to what those in the know have to say because there is little form to go on. It also pays to side with those who have a good record in the race.

Two of those are FIRST FIGARO and NEW TO THIS TOWN. First Figaro is trained by Dermot Weld who was at pains to point out that the horse needs good ground. It looks like he will get that good ground and with Davy Russell on board I am very keen on his chances.

NEW TO THIS TOWN is another with excellent potential who has recently been bought by the Potts family in Ireland after his initial promise. His price has come in slightly but he is still a nice each way price.

  • FIRST FIGARO – 2pts e/w at 12/1 (Ladbrokes)
  • NEW TO THIS TOWN – 1pt e/w at 10/1 (Ladbrokes)
