Last week's selection Goshen was unfortunately a non runner. A pity as I was looking forward to the match up with the end winner that day and market favourite Sceau Royal. Nothing really came out of the pack to really challenge him and if Goshen ran and brought his A game it would of been a great race.
Friday brings the start of a few days racing at Cheltenham. Saturday's card is definitely better than Friday's, nonetheless I have two selections picked out.
1:10 Cheltenham
There’s no doubt that An Tailliur will be popular in the betting after stringing five wins back to back this year. He will need to progress even further to win tomorrow however.
It’s a tight and competitive race but I’ve narrowed by selection down to the Paul Nicholl's trained Skatman. He is unbeaten over hurdles and he won in nice style under a penalty at Newton Abbot a few weeks ago.
The form of that race has worked out quite nicely with third placed runner that day (Opening Bid) has went on to win.
It’s also worth mentioning Skatman is 3lb well in tomorrow. Everything points to a big run. I thought 7/2 was maybe a tad short but it’s still a decent price given the profile of the horse.
2:55 Cheltenham
Friday’s 2:55 is an extended 3m 6f cross country chase and I was quite surprised to see Potters Corner marked up at 9s. I think he’s a cracking each way bet.
Although he’s had a few not so great runs he is still not badly handicapped. Now an 11 year old he’s one of the oldest horses in the race.
Of course he’s not the force he used to be but he’s a brilliant chaser on his day and if he shows up in any sort of form and his jumping isn’t too iffy he could be bang there near the finish.
