Cairnzy’s Cheltenham Tips: Go with the Fro at Cheltenham!

Cheltenham is very much on the horizon and I can’t wait for 4 days of brilliant racing. I, unfortunately, couldn’t get Tuesday off work but there will be a few long toilet breaks tomorrow that’s for sure!

Before we talk racing it’s important to keep an eye on what you spend over the Cheltenham festival. It’s very easy to get carried away and I advise sticking to a day to day limit as these races are very competitive and trying to find a winner in them can be extremely hard.

I and Rizzel of course will do our best to find some for you all.

Rizz is already covering a full preview of the entire day tomorrow so I’ll just be putting up 2/3 selections per day to offer you all something else on the side.

Cheltenham 1:30 – Jonbon ( TO PLACE ) 5/6

A cracking opener and I’ve decided to play this one safe. Nicky Henderson holds a strong hand with Constitution Hill and Jonbon with all eyes more so on Constitution Hill who looks a real scary animal. The manner in which he won his two races at Sandown make him a worthy favourite in my opinion. Sandown is a tough track and he eased to victory without any real bother in either of those races.

I can see Cheltenham being a breeze in the park for him but at 5/2 I couldn’t risk a straight win on it. I was surprised to see Jonbon at 5s if I’m perfectly honest. Because I think he’s a better horse than Dysart Dynamo and the Mullins runner is marked up currently at 9/4.

Jonbon who is a full brother to the legendary Douvan is starting to pay back the £570,000 price tag on his head. He too has been impressive on recent starts.

I’ll be very surprised if he isn’t involved in the finish and that’s why I’ve gone for the place market at 5/6 as I still feel that’s a good price to nearly double your money if it lands.

Cheltenham 2:50 – Frodon ( TO PLACE ) 11/4

Not sure if this is a tip or me just sticking Frodon up because he’s my all-time favourite.

Carrying top weight in this race is not going to be easy but if there’s a horse in the race who can I think it’s Frodon. A strong jumper, a strong traveller and a horse with a great determination to win.

With most bookmakers offering 5 places on this race I thought Frodon to place at 11/4 was a great bet. You know Bryony will take him to the front and be prominent. You know on his day he’ll jump well and at the very least give you a run for your money.

He’s beaten some of the greatest with his front runner tactics before it’s just if he can do it under top weight is the question.

Cheltenham 5:30 – Run Wild Fred 7/4

I was disappointed to see on the ropes taken out of this race as I was intending on taking on Run Wild Fred with him but now I’ve no other option but to take the Gordon Elliot runner as my selection.

Gordon Elliot has a great record in the National Hunt Chase and given there are only 7 going to post tomorrow I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t come out on top.

I’m a little bit worried about the lack of racing as he hasn’t been seen since December. He missed a race at Naas due to a temperature and further to that he didn’t run at Navan due to ground conditions.

No doubt he’s been aimed for this race and the Cheltenham track will play very much to his strengths.

Treble on selections at current prices pays roughly 18/1
