UK Racing returns and I’ve jumped on for a sole selection at Beverley.

Acklam Express 7/4 – 3:27 Beverley

Nigel Tinklers Acklam Express won’t have a better opportunity than to end a losing streak that stretches back 2 years when he contests the Eddie and Violet Smith conditions stake at Beverley.

Acklam Express has not won since August 2020, winning at York in the Rose Stakes listed. However, the losing streak of 2 years doesn’t fully tell the whole story and I wouldn’t let that put you off having a bet.

Since winning back in August 2020 Acklam Express has been competing in very tough company and didn’t disgrace himself when doing so including placing at group 1 level in Meydan back in the front end of last year.

He failed to shine when returning back to the UK although his 3rd in the King Stands Stakes was a decent run finishing 4 or 5 lengths behind the winner Nature Strip.

His most recent run was in the Nunthorpe and although finishing 9th doesn’t sound too great that particular field was filled with top-class performers including Highfield Princess, Raasel, Platinum Queen and Royal Acclaim. There were obviously others but the ones named in my eyes are all top-class acts and it’s hard to really say he had a bad run when he’s up against horses of that calibre.

Now rated 108, and taking a significant drop in grade for this contest if he’s able to run to anything resembling that sort of mark he should be seen tomorrow in the winners.
