CAPRI was the highlight for me as it won the St Leger Stakes and I tipped it at 4-1.
I had three other winners – Duretto and Set in Stone at 7-4 and Tor at 7-1 although it went off at 5-2 – and a place.
A couple of bets stand out on a pretty dire Sunday and I'll be disappointed if ROLLING MAUL (4.00) and INCONCEIVABLE (5.00) don't yield a profit at Ffos Las.
Peter Bowen's decision to switch useful hurdler Rolling Maul to the Flat has paid instant dividends with his gelding now going for four straight wins. This two-mile slog on testing ground sorts out the men from the boys and dour stayer Rolling Maul is taken to confirm Newmarket form with third home Look My Way, even on slightly worse terms.
Inconceivable should be available at bigger odds and Ralph Beckett's filly can finally poke her head in front after a series of placed efforts.
The best of those probably came at Newbury, a galloping track not unlike Ffos Las, when she finished well into third over 1m 5f. Inconceivable also ran with credit at Salisbury over 1m 6f, leading three out before fading into third behind Mobait and Waterville Dancer. This shorter trip should be ideal.
Evan Williams is always to be feared at the Welsh track and Prussian Eagle is stripped for action only five days after running third over hurdles at Worcester. The gelding is rated about 20lb inferior over hurdles to Jonjo O'Neill's top weight Doesyourdogbite, but little separates them on Flat ratings.
Recommended bets
- Ffos Las – Rolling Maul (4.0) (7-4, Ladbrokes)
- Ffos Las – Inconceivable (5.0) (5-2, Betfred)
