IT was a case of quality over quantity yesterday as my only tip of the day won after I flagged it up at 3-1. Today I've a trio of fancies at Haydock.
Iain Jardine saddles a couple of potential winners in PECHEURS DE PERLES (3.30) and THORNTOUN CARE (5.05) at Haydock.
Haydock 3.30
The track will be riding soft and that suits Pecheurs De Perles, a winner at Tipperary in April on deep ground when trained by Henry De Bromhead. The gelding has had two starts for Jardine, the latest producing a promising third to Fire Brigade and Saturday’s winner Glorious Forever over course and distance last month. The handicapper has dropped him 2lb and Paul Hanagan is back on top.
Priced up at double-digit odds in some places last night, Pecheurs De Perles is well worth an each-way bet.
Haydock 5.05
Thorntoun Care has almost three lengths to make up on Diamonds A Dancing on their running at Carlisle but enjoys an 8lb pull. He comes here in good form after being touched off by Regal Mirage at Pontefract (soft) and it was six lengths back to third horse Diamond Runner, a cosy winner next time out at Redcar. It’s difficult to see him not hitting the frame at least.
Consistent filly Mais Si is a rare Gordon Elliott runner at this track and the bookies are taking no chances pricing her up as their overnight favourite. First-time blinkers and the booking of Jamie Codd suggest the Irish raider means business.
Modernism drops in class and has the assistance of Simon Walker, while Windsor winner Take two is 6lb higher but will like the ground.
Haydock 4.00
SO BELOVED (4.00) hasn’t won since scoring here last May but this looks an easier assignment than some of his more recent outings.
David O’Meara’s hooded gelding was an excellent third to Absolutely So and Jallota over course and distance in June and ran up to his mark when fifth to useful Talaayeb in the Group 3 Sky Bet City Of York Stakes. So Blessed isn’t much of a price but will be hard to beat on a track he likes.
Soft ground performer Accession had more than length to spare over my selection when they finished third and fourth respectively to Aclaim at Newbury last September, but is 4lb worse off.
