Alan Thomson’s Tips: Get in the festive Spirit at Southwell

BOLD SPIRIT (2.50) was messed around on his previous visit to Southwell only three days ago and quick compensation is on the cards.

The top weight did quite well in the circumstances to finish fourth to Malaspina in a Class 5 contest and the six-year-old drops a grade under regular rider Phil Dennis. Bold Spirit was beaten a neck by First Excel on the Fibresand last month and clearly handles the surface.

Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell has identified this modest affair for Why Me and any market move would be interesting.
