EXHORT (7.40) looks a stonking bet at Ayr this evening having run second at Newmarket to yesterday’s clear-cut Britannia Handicap winner Ostilio.

Not only that but Exhort steps up to 1m 2f on the back of her staying-on second to Dynamic at Musselburgh over a mile. The William Haggas-trained winner is quite useful and the pair pulled well clear in the manner of two progressive horses.

Atkinson Grimshaw is a most interesting recruit to the Iain Jardine stable having performed well for Andrew Balding. Gelded since, Atkinson Grimshaw would be a threat if able to reproduce a fine third to Pivoine at Kempton or his second to Thundering Blue at Newmarket. The betting market might tell us if Atkinson Grimshaw is ready to go but Exhort sets a high standard.

SUMMERGHAND (8.10) held an entry for tomorrow’s Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot but heads north instead with a very obvious chance.

David O’Meara’s sprinter is on a hat-trick after wins at Doncaster and Haydock on fast ground. His win at Haydock was particularly meritorious as he took a hefty bump coming out of the stalls. Given plenty of time to recover, Summerghand made smooth headway to catch Mickey in the final 100 yards.

ROBBEN RAINBOW (9.15) can provide a pot of gold in the finale. David Barron’s gelding ran fifth to Showdance Kid in a better event at Wolverhampton, being denied racing room at a crucial stage coming off the home bend. He earlier fourth to Tan over six furlongs at Thirsk was boosted when that horse bolted up at Chelmsford City.

Monday’s winner Berlios is up a furlongs under a 6lb penalty but Rebecca Bastiman clearly has him in good nick. I’ve given up on Colour Contrast, somewhat reluctantly it has to be said, after he finished second for the fifth time in succession at Hamilton. The form of those narrow defeats is working out okay but the handicapper keeps nudging him up a couple of pounds which is frustrating for all concerned.

Scotch Myst is owned by the wife of the course chairman and his second to Lucky Lodge at Wolverhampton gives him a squeak along with Carlovian and Coviglia in an open low-grade affair.

ARNOLD , been waiting for this weeks now, tried as much as the argies did tonight last time at beverley. Only beat 8l jockey stood up in the irons last 2 f. Even the race comments look dubious, (,not pushed out,), 20-1 bet 365 worth a lil dabble
