ENDEAVOUR (2.25) remains a sprightly 12-year-old and can further enhance his good record around Musselburgh.
Dianne Sayer's gelding looked all over the winner of this race last year only be be worn down close home by Lake Chapala. He races off an 11lb lower mark and arrives here on the back of a hurdles victory at Kelso.
With Brian Hughes riding and the prospect of good ground Endeavour can take the measure of John Williams, a winner on heavy at Hexham last month.
Whatever the fate of John Williams, Borders trainer Sandy Thomson and Rachel McDonald could be on the scoresheet earlier on the card with BUCKLED (12.45).
He was a course and distance scorer in March on good ground and is 8lb higher on the back of his Kelso victory 11 days ago. Good ground would be a bonus.
The biggest danger should be another course and distance winner, The Wise One, with trainer James Ewart among the winners.
The concluding two-mile handicap hurdle is a puzzler but SUPERIOR COMMAND (3.00) is worth an each-way dabble.
Lucinda Russell's gelding won over course and distance in January and is closely matched with Musselburgh regular Jonny Delta.
Superior Command should be sharper for his recent close-up fourth at Kelso and enjoys running on a decent surface.
Iain Jardine, still on a high following Nakeeta's brilliant fifth in the Melbourne Cup, saddles top weight Vercingetorix. He won on good to firm at Thirsk in July, so the quicker the better. A stout stayer on the Flat, he may find this trip on the sharp side over hurdles.
Keith Dalgleish's Sindarban would be a handicap snip if able to recapture his old Flat form. However, he was again disappointing when last seen at Bangor in August.
ENGLAND EXPECTS (3.55) was beaten on the nod over course and distance last Wednesday's and returns for another crack at an amateur riders' handicap. She is up 3lb but, if anything, this looks a weaker event.
Endeavour is a good old dog.
Time and time again I ignore him and he wins when your guard is down.
He hasn’t won 2 on the bounce for about 4 years but this is a shit race which could go anywhere.
On his nh debut he had hunt ball behind him, and he went on to be half decent, and was running in the states last I heard.
Both were 100-1 shots that day.
Good luck, and I have to put a cheeky tenner for old times sake.
Good luck tommo…..
