BRITISH racing is back after an enforced six-day break and our man is eyeing a winning return with three Wednesday bets from Southwell.

Southwell 2.30

COUNTRY’N’WESTERN could have the race set up for him in the 1m 4f handicap. There is sure to be a blistering pace as Hidden Depths went off like a scalded cat at Lingfield.

He must have been 15 lengths clear at one stage before being caught near the line by Endlessly. Purple Rock also likes to race handily and course winner Country’n’Western should be staying on strongly at the end having won over 1m 6f.

Southwell 3.0

BUSY STREET was stepped up to two miles at Newcastle and came home strongly to hold off useful Stargazer. A 3lb rise is very fair and there has to be stamina concerns over chief market rivals Azari and Amitie Waltz.

Azari has been in rampant form, notching a hat-trick over 1m 4f, but is now up 9lb over this longer distance, while Amitie Waltz was beaten a neck by Flaming Marvel over 1m 4f at Wolverhampton, having seen off Purple Rock here over the same trip.

Southwell 4.30

SPIRIT POWER has yet to tackle Fibresand but Eric Alson’s sprinter arrives at Southwell in terrific form. He carried a penalty at Newcastle at the end of January, following a Kempton success a week earlier, and that extra 6lb just proved his undoing in finishing second to Gorgeous General. Spirit Power was conceding the winner 18lb and should serve it up to Point Zero and Piazon.

Great to have the racing back. Let’s get off to a great restart! Would love to offer a few tips but despite years following this thread I still do not understand racing enough.

Pretty low key stuff but at least it’s back.
Just gone for a couple of shorties in a double

    MISSY TATA 1/1 2.35
Although off the track for a long time if anywhere near her form should be winning this.

    WAY BACK HOME 2/1 1.35
The Mullins fav hasn’t progressed on early promise and think can be taken on today. Way back home ran a cracker lto and with further progress likely should go close today. Trainer also does well at the track

Winners in France during the suspension, Greatrex/Watson have Ulster 5/4 running at 545k, I almost didn’t look further, but Oisin Murphy is on MUST BE MAGIC 3/1, not seen in 10 months with only 2 runs under his belt, we will have to take a chance, but the fact he was behind two class 1 winners on his first outing is good enough for me. If this doesn’t win look towards ME TOO NAGASAKI 2/1 with Murphy on in the 715.
Last time winner KAYF THOU 7/2 335fh has 7 of his 8lb rise taken off by a claimer, which stands him in good stead especially as the fav is up 6lbs taking claims into consideration.
Grey Destiny is up 5lbs since winning over CD 2 starts ago, Screaming Gemini 13/8 has come close off slightly higher marks, today she has 5lbs taken off which makes her a worthy fav, not one to get too involved in but I will take on the field and back SOOQAAN 7/2.

I will probably bet on SG as it has won for me before but would probably back SOOQAAN w/o.

Anyone done any AP bets for Cheltenham now it’s NRNB ?

A couple I’ve done are both on Thursday

    Baron Alco 20/1 Brown Advisory

He Beat frodon getting 17 pounds but was 4th the next time getting 12 pounds.
Baron alco ran a career best in beating frodon that day as he jumped and travelled so well but he had excuses next time when 4th as he made a number of mistakes and was never really in a rhythm as frodon took him on.in short he wasn’t on his A game but to his credit he still challenged into the straight but the early mistakes took its toll and weakened late on.

After frodons win recent win at Cheltenham in a graded race I think baron alco has a cracking chance in this handicap and it’s worth remembering he was 2nd in the same race 2 years ago.
The horse that beat him that day was road to respect who was 4th in the following years gold cup and a leading fancy this year.
Baron alco has no entries at the moment and I would expect him to show up here fresh and well and raring to go from the front.

    20/1 5 places

    Coney Island 33/1 Ryanair

Coney Island is a classy horse. No horse in recent years has won this race off a sub 160 rating but I wouldn’t be overly worried – he was rated 162 last year before he had his issues. He was 3rd fav for the Gold Cup last year before he got pulled for the season and I would think he’s a high 160s animal with a full season under his belt. Harty absolutely loves him and thinks he’s the real deal.

The Ryanair should cut up quite a bit in the next few weeks and no matter who lines up, this fella will go in under the radar. The 33/1 will disappear and barring something going wrong we know this is the only race for him. Ground will be no problem for him but my one concern is he’s never ran at the track before.
