LOMU (7.20) tanked through his race at Hamilton before pulling six lengths clear of Manshood and more of the same will be expected from his backers at Musselburgh this evening.
He looked a much improved horse and may be about to fulfil the potential he showed when winning his first two races as a juvenile. His rails draw is a bonus if breaking smartly.
NEW ABBEY ANGEL (5.40) has tried 36 times without success to add to his sole career victory at Lingfield back in February, 2016 but he has shown a liking for Musselburgh, finishing a close second on his last two visits. Carol Bartley gets the chance to snap that long losing run in the opening amateur riders’ event and Keith Dalgleish’s grey is the type to bet each-way in an open, low-key event.
FLINT HILL (6.10) wins a narrow vote in an interesting 7f event if able to build on his promising second to Archie Watson’s Nate The Great at Carlisle. The winner was sent off 6-4 favourite at Ascot last week and ran a creditable third to Victory Command. Caballero had Amadeus Grey five lengths adrift when third to Celebrity Dancer at Ayr, while Patchouli drops in class.
PEPYS (6.45) was strong at the finish when scoring at Beverley and a 3lb rise is fair. He led for much of that race but is unlikely to get his own way up front as How Bizarre also likes to dictate. He attempted to make all at Ripon but was worn down by Weellan. The winner could manage to beat only one home at Redcar on Wednesday which tempers enthusiasm.
DANZAY (8.20) has been kept busy by Mark Johnston but is holding his form well. A repeat of his second to Roger Varian’s Faadhel at Chester last week under tonight’s apprentice Andrew Breslin would see the top weight go mighty close.
