AVENUE OF STARS (2.00) ploughed through the mud at Carlisle to beat Royal Connoisseur and although 5lb higher, Karen McLintock’s five-year-old can go in again at Hamilton this afternoon.
He ran fourth to Aleef over course and distance in June (soft) and runner-up Nuns Walk and third home Yes You have gone on to better things.
MAMETZ WOOD (4.00) looks well handicapped and was trading at very decent odds last night. Karl Burke has been among the winners this month and Mametz Wood should handle underfoot conditions, having run a close second to Crownthorpe on soft at Ripon earlier in the season. The gelding is 3lb lower and Rhona Pindar takes off 7lb.
FRAMLEY GARTH (3.30) can reward an each-way interest in the veterans’ handicap. He won twice earlier in the season at York and Doncaster, and on his last trip to Hamilton ran sixth to Archi’s Affaire in the Lanark Silver Bell. Framley Garth has lost ground at the start on his last two outings, so his form probably deserves to be marked up slightly.
Lawrence Mullaney saddles two other runners with each-way prospects. OPTIMA PETAMUS (3.00) has flattered to deceive on more than one occasion and lost out in a photo finish to Island Song here 11 days ago. Blinkers now replace cheek-pieces.
LIFE KNOWLEDGE (5.00) doesn’t win too often but his second to Pammi here over a longer trip gives him a squeak in an ordinary finale.
At Newcastle this evening, AL MUREIB (7.00) can get off the mark at the fourth time of asking for Saeed Bin Suroor. His close second to Dashing Willoughby at Wolverhampton is a solid piece of form given the winner’s excellent effort in defeat at Newbury on Saturday.
