THEGLASGOWARRIOR (5.25) can gain compensation for an unlucky second at Hamilton by swooping late in the finale at Chester.

Jim Goldie has found him a very good opening and the only negative is the widest draw in stall 10. That shouldn’t prove insurmountable as Theglasgowarrior is a confirmed hold-up horse, so Jamie Gormley will probably take a pull and tuck in.

He will need some luck in running around the tight Roodee turns but the gelding seems to be in the form of his life. A watch should be kept on the weather as the Warrior wouldn’t want it to come up soft.

Anyone who witnessed an inspired Hamilton Park gamble being landed with SPRAY THE SEA (2.45) will want to be on Richard Fahey’s three-year-old at Newcastle. He escapes a penalty because it was an apprentices’ event and appears to be well ahead of the handicapper. This race is restricted to lady riders and Paula Muir can claim a valuable 5lb racing out of a handy pitch in stall four.

MORTICIA (5.00) steps up in grade at York but Keith Dalgleish has a progressive filly on his hands. Morticia was a penalty kick at Hamilton and duly disposed of some modest rivals with no fuss. She had acquitted herself in more onerous company previously and doesn’t look overburdened.

ESCALATOR (2.25) is on the up and occupies pole position in the one-mile Porsche Handicap betting. Charlie Fellowes has an improving three-year-old on his hands judging by the way Escalator put the race to bed so ruthlessly at Newmarket (runner-up won easily next time). He hasn’t been seen since the end of June, so his handicap mark has been protected with this race in mind.

Crack On Crack On has plenty of horse-power under the bonnet but he blew the start in the Royal Hunt Cup so comes with risks.

The average punters are sheep they just can’t see past the favourite thats why those bookie chaps are rich because of 99% of these type of punters.

For sure but it’s these losing punters that give us winning punters the opportunity to take money off the bookies. I see it as a game of pass the parcel-the mug punters make the bookies rich then the bookies have the means to pass on a bit to those who make yearly profits-everyones a winner, apart from the mug punters obviously

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Ninety per cent of punters lose – the aim is to be one of the 10 per cent who don’t.
