4.40 MARTIN PIPE CONDITIONAL JOCKEY’S HURDLE: RACE PREVIEW

THE Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle is the highlight for conditional jockeys competing at the Cheltenham Festival. The trip is two miles and four and a half furlongs and the race was won last year by 20/1 shot Attaglance for trainer Malcolm Jefferson.

Gevrey Chambertin is the bookies' favourite at the moment.

The grey's only defeat in five outings came in a well above average Newbury bumper last season and he's been very progressive in three starts over hurdles this term, particularly when justifying odds-on favouritsm on his handicap debut at Wincanton last time.

Edeymi was runner-up in the Fred Winter last year but had run poorly since before taking a 1m4f maiden at Dundalk last month.

Abbey Lane produced a career-best effort to land the ultra-competitive Boylesports Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown in January but there is a good chance that there is even more to come from this lightly-raced eight-year-old.

Bonisland is entered in several races, but maybe he has a perfect profile for this race.

Salubrious appears to have got his act together when winning impressively at Musselburgh last time out and he may contract in price as we get the final declarations in.

Meister Eckhart, Tanerko Emery, Katkeu, Toner Doudaries, Ericht, Ma Filleule, Pendra, Tennis Cap and Ballynagour have all multiple entries in this Festival. We don't know if they will run here but they could be strong contenders at decent odds. A NRNB bookmaker is suggested.
