DUSTIN JOHNSON beat all the odds and the USGA to win the US Open at the weekend and justify my faith in him.

There has been a lot said on social media and in the press on the controversy and I’m on Dustin’s side.

I don’t think the USGA would have given him a one stroke penalty if there was only one shot in it at the end.  I bet they breathed a collective sigh of relief when Dustin won by more than one.

Anyway I’m really please he has got the monkey off his back and wouldn’t be surprised if he won more Majors. I tipped him to win at 14-1 and it was a nice 28pts success.

So to this week. The Blue Course at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, hosts the Quicken Loans National for the seventh time.

The par 71 now measures 7569 yards and 33 competitors from the US Open are scheduled to compete here. Will they be able to get their putters working on these bentgrass greens after last week’s glass-like surfaces. We wait and see. What will be important is hitting targets so accuracy could be important.

Daniel Summerhays had a brilliant US Open and his T8th was his best finish of the season. I have watched him a few times and can’t believe he hasn’t been in the top 10 more often.

His driving accuracy is 59.96 (99th) and greens in regulation 63.85% (136th) but his putting seems to be his strong suit, with strokes gained:putting of 0.575 (9th).  Really expect him to continue that form and looks a good each way.

Thirty-year0old Patton Kizzire is one I’ve been following a lot this year and has five top-10 finishes. He was another who missed the cut in the US Open but his stats in the Memorial, his previous tournament, were impressive.

His driving accuracy was 85.71%, GIR of 69.44% and strokes gained:putting of 1.298. If he can hit the ball anything like that here at the Congressional he will be close.

Kevin Chappell has had three top-10 finishes from his last seven outings but missed the cut in the US Open. His driving accuracy is 61.37% (85th) and has a GIR of 66.58% (59th) but unfortunately his putting has let him down badly recently.
