THE Albatross Golf Resort in Prague is the host of the Czech Masters for the third year running. It was opened in 2010 and has also staged the Prague Masters.
The track is a long 7516-yard par 72 and the rough is supposed to be penal with the greens running at 12 on the stimpmeter. Long and accurate off the tee could be the important stat.
I heard some good things about Callum Shinkwin at the beginning of the season from my colleague Desmond who used to play at the same club and I took notice of him when he hit that amazing 62 in the Shenzhen International in April.
With long hitting off the tee with degree of accuracy a prerequisite here he fits the bill. He is 15th on Tour for driving distance (301 yards) and 27th on accuracy (65.3%). His GIR is 70% (35th) and his putting seems to be his weak spot but hopefully he can turn that around here. He was in great form before The Open where he missed the cut and this could get him back on track. Well worth an each-way wager.
He might not be the longest hitter on the European Tour but Maximilian Kiefer is one of the most accurate, 63.7% (36th) and has a GIR of 69.4% (44th). He is another whose putting has let him down in the past but all he needs is for some to drop. The German has yet to win on the Tour but Kiefer is one of the rising stars and victory isn’t far away.
