ONE day to go until the Nations League matches and most punters have had a couple of days off.

Tuesday was a quiet one but I did tune in to a live FA Cup qualifier between Maine Road FC and Squires Gate on BBC. The quality was missing but good to see fans in the ground.

There are 10 Nations League encounters on Thursday including Germany vs Spain, Bulgaria vs Ireland and Finland vs Wales.

There were more Europa League draws on Tuesday and for the third year running Rangers could face Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn. Celtic should be preparing for a clash with Latvians Riga and Aberdeen tackle Sporting Lisbon if they beat Viking.

Meanwhile, McBookie released some Scottish anteposts and are all but giving Hearts the Championship title next season.

The Scots firm have installed the Jambos as red-hot 1-8 favourites to finish top and return to the Premiership from where they maintain they were unfairly relegated.

Hearts are followed in the betting by Dundee on 10-1 and Inverness Caley Thistle on 16-1 – and remember the season will last just 27 games.

McBookie spokesman Paul Petrie said: “Hearts didn’t want to be playing in the Championship this season but we don’t think their time in the lower league will be for more than one season. It would be a major shock if they aren’t lifting the title come the end of the season.”

With sided facing each other three times instead of four McBookie offer just 5-1 the Jambos will have an invincible season. It's possible but for me the price is a little skinny.

Championship betting: 1-8 Hearts, 10-1 Dundee, 16-1 ICT, 25-1 Dunfermline, 33-1 Ayr, 66-1 Morton, 100-1 Arbroath, 150-1 Raith, QoS, 200-1 Alloa.

Well done to all the winners on Tuesday and good luck if you're having a bet on Wednesday. I'll have tips for Thursday's matches.

According to Record Sport, Messi has agreed financial terms on a five-year contract worth a total of €700m (£623m).

The incredible deal would make the Argentine the highest-paid individual in the history of the sport.

It equates to £14,200 an hour, £341,000 per day, £2.4m every week and a whopping £10.4m per month.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

Without Covid he’d probably be worth every penny but he can’t put bums on seats at the moment.

    Afternoon guys

Just a bit of insight ahead of the Super League game between Warrington and Hull of Friday night.

Warrington(my team for over 30 years) have been forced to ‘stand down’ 6 players for the upcoming game following a positive covid 19 test result from an opposing player after last weeks fixture against Wakefield. All 6 players are regular starters or first team squad players and most of them are forwards.

Despite this, Warrington have chosen to go ahead with the game to keep the integrity of the sport.

Having seen the early squad news it looks likely that our starting forward pack will be weakened and our subs bench almost made up exclusively of debutants or youngsters with under 10 top grade appearances.

Hull are a side with a BIG forward pack and can hurt any team with the go forward of the big men in the middle.

The game is being played at a neutral venue.

Despite Warrington’s form and recent h2h I think that Hull will be to strong for us on Friday. Too many big men running through tackles will tire our inexperienced defence late in the second half.

A few sites have taken the game down but bet365 still has it up. There may be others aswell.

    Hull FC+6.5 Handicap 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hull FC to win 13/8 ⭐⭐⭐

The money that man city are going to pay for messi is just a joke. There is no way they will get there money back on a 33 yo man even in shirt sales. Man city only have fans in manchester and hardly any world wide. Maybe be different if liverpool or man utd signed him. Plus its not going forward man city need to strengthen its there wide open defence.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

As we know City don’t need to get the money back although the fair play guys may take some convincing about this deal.
They’ll sell loads of shorts though – plenty of Messi fans who won’t be City fans.

    • gaz1105 4 years ago

Haha dippers flapping already, light a candle for him IF he signs

  25. 4 years ago

    1. What’s wrong with man city buying Messi
    2. It ain’t your money .
    3. If your club was getting him would your opinion differ?
    4. Typical green eyed monsters .

However if they do sign him the level of expectancy will go through the roof. Pep has changed the way football is played however if they don’t win the champions league with Messi in the team he should be considered a failure

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

I think it will be great to see Messi in the Premier League and I think they’ll win it with him.
CL’s different altogether and Pep’s recent record is poor considering the money he’s spent.

    • maccathered 4 years ago

I hope they do sign him,it doesn’t assure them of anything though. He will get injured a lot more and he won’t have the care he had at Barcelona.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

Of course it’s not assured but if they play to Messi’s strength they’ll probably win it.
Will he get injured more – I don’t know. Got plenty of tough treatment in La Liga and the Champions League and seemed to be able to be kicked.

    • maccathered 4 years ago

City need to tighten up defensively even with Messi in their team, doubt he will go there mr f as he wants to win the champions league,PSG imo if he leaves Barca they have the money and won’t flinch over the price.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

It’s looking like City at the moment. I think people forget that £630m is nothing but loose change to City’s owners.
Having Messi gives them prestige and worldwide fame.

    1. The premier league stats suggest that defending a title is not often done.
    2. I would love to see one of the greatest players ever in the premier league his personal stats and achievements are mind blowing his achievements with Argentina less so.
    3. Jury is out as to whether he will like Manchester lifestyle and weather
    4. The spotlight would be on Messi not man city every day of the week and I prefer a team rather than a superstar.
5 .klopp has a team mentality there are no superstars hard working zero egos as I

  28. 4 years ago

Question . Is there anyone on this site that wouldn’t have him in there club regardless of money injuries game time etc etc . Ask Fulham fans about Rodney marsh George best . Cmon the biggest problem will be the hype that surrounds it and the expectancy week in week out . As I said klopp has a team ethic 1st and second in premier league two years running 2 champions league finals in two year’s. Media friendly ask any club would you have klopp As your manager… all no brainer’s in my humble opinion on both counts

  29. alex. walker 4 years ago

Carlo123. Am a liverpool fan and i wouldn’t want them to spend 623m on a 33yo. As much as he has been the best player in the world for the last 10yrs. I think its a obscene amount of money to pay for for any player. The people who run man city use it as a toy to play with. Chelsea done it for yrs now man city are doing the same. Oh by the way if i was pep i would be trying to fix my defence after getting humpped by a french team who are not even in European football this season. Say no more.

  30. 4 years ago

Hold on a second your highest paid player is on 100k a week and you don’t consider that wrong the football world is full of hipocrisy . If you truly believe about obsene a money paid to players why not support southport

  31. alex. walker 4 years ago

100k per wk is the average being paid to nearly ever player in the english premier league. I remember alan hansen done a programme for the bbc many yrs ago. He said that 70% of epl players were 1 contract of being a millionaire. That was many yrs ago. I would say now that every player in the epl is a millionaire. I blame barcalona for giving messi the contract of a 623m buy out clause. More full the club that pays that money for a 33yo. Oh i cant support southport as i live in edinburgh.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

No but you could support someone like Gala Fairydean.

  32. 4 years ago

Thanks Mr F . Not that I need any support I think Alex is suggesting that every player is paid a 100k a week in the premier league he is totally wrong ask any Norwich Bournemouth Watford player if they were on 100k a week the answer eeeer no. I would pay Messi whatever he wants as Alex is missing the bigger picture if and it is if the contract would include after two years at man city he will go to a America for man city clone club he Alex suggested earlier that shirt sales wouldn’t pay his wages

Zlatan shirt sales world wide check Alex
Ronaldo shirt sales world wide Alex
Beckham shirt sales world wide Alex

I don’t think man city need a business lesson on there p/l

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

Alex is just making a point. We know all EPL players don’t earn a £1m with some on as “little” as £5k a week.
However, the average salary is £3m a year so if you’re half decent you’ll be doing OK.

    • maccathered 4 years ago

The average premier league player earns around 35k a week including Bournemouth,Watford,Norwich players. The average Championship player will be around 15k a week.

    • Mr Fixit 4 years ago

In april it was revealed average Championship salary was £29k a week and average in League One was £5k so a massive gulf.

    • maccathered 4 years ago

It’s all irrelevant anyway as Messi is the best player ever to grace a football field he can command whatever a club is willing to pay……

  35. 4 years ago

it’s all about opinions Mr F. If man city want to pay him that salary so be it.
I personally think anybody paid that money in any walk of life is wrong .
however the fickle nature of some fans is bizarre. Who wouldn’t want Messi the players man city will attract over the next two years will be in itself be amazing it’s great business think of the sponsors lining up Wow!

He hasn’t signed yet however his best mate in footballing circles is aguero not Di Maria
    Played under guardiolla
snide remark he wants to win the champions league!!!
That’s what pep is banking on . As I said earlier it could backfire on man city scrutiny daily . This is man city’s wish to be the biggest club in the world ,that will never happen the two biggest clubs in England are Liverpool and man utd even in bad times 30 yr’s no league title and man utd utd before Sir Alex .

    • maccathered 4 years ago

There’s lots of complications in signing Messi.,obviously we know how good he is but when he signs for a club on those wages then whoever signs him are going to have the problem from the clubs best players wanting the same wage.

Carlo123 i think you do need a lesson my son. All the players you metion played for massive clubs with worldwide supporters. Ac milan and real madrid. If you think man city as a club have have that many fans to pay for messi your living in the land of nod. If i did say that all players are on 100k a wk then am wrong. But i did say that all players in the epl are millionares and on 35k a wk that makes them a millionaire. I never saw pele play but i have saw messi and it was magical but am sorry 623m is just pure MADNESS for him.

  38. 4 years ago

man city want Messi for commercial reasons Messi gets city for his salary aguero and guardiolla.
he may not win the champions league at city but then again Gerrard never won the premiership!
so instead of being biased embrace it if messI joins the premiership . sure man city defence since kompany left is very vulnerable that would be no different van diyk out for half the season. I respect your opinion as it is only an opinion but please occasionally take off the rose colured specs

  39. 4 years ago

What a load of nonsense carragher demanding the same wages as Gerrard I don’t think so
Or Gary neville want the same wages as rooney I don’t think so

  40. alex. walker 4 years ago

Carlo123. Do u honestly think if man city pay the full 623m for messi. They would get it back on shirts and sponsor money? I think the only thing that would happen is that they would fill the eithad staduim every 2nd wk when supporters are allowed back. Because they couldnt fill it last season.

  41. 4 years ago

Alex please you are possibly right on that score man city stadium never a full house unless it’s Liverpool or man utd . So we as football fans know that . I understand the large sums of money are eyewatering as some staff members of certain clubs have been furlough and then backtracked . It’s the hiporisy in football tribal ugly at times . However if you won the lottery soon would you not upgrade in some form or other . I remember Gretna green with a wealthy owner set the place alight for a period of time. Football is like flared jeans music latest fads. Im not brown nosing I prefer klopp style of management there seems no egos in the dressing room and I stand to be corrected not on the front pages. Liverpool back five city’s front six compromise . Pains me as I support man u for 56 years. It’s a game of opinions All the best I loved my time in kircaldy
