Euro 2024 Bet of the day

After a quiet few days, the Football Bet of the Day returns on Thursday/Friday morning and sees me focus on the South American World Cup qualifiers, and there is one side I’m keen to get on side here.

⚽️ Argentina 🇦🇷 vs Paraguay 🇵🇾

🇦🇷 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers

⏰ Friday 13th October, 00:00

Argentina will look to maintain their 100% start to World Cup qualification as they welcome winless Paraguay to El Monumental in the early hours of Friday morning – and I’ve come up with a way to get the hosts on side.

Along with old rivals Brazil, Argentina sit top of the CONMEBOL table after making it two wins from two. Lionel Scaloni’s hosts began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Ecuador thanks to a Lionel Messi winner in the 78th minute and backed that up by going to the high-altitude stadium of La Paz and defeating Bolivia 0-3 – albeit playing against 10 men from the 39th-minute with the score at 0-1.

Paraguay will be disappointed with their start to World Cup qualifying as they remain winless after their opening two matches to sit in 6th position. Gustavo Gómez’s men would’ve been left frustrated by their opening day goalless draw at home to Peru in a game they played the entire 2nd-half with an extra man, but worse was to follow in their next match as a 90th-minute penalty from Salomón Rondón saw them fall to a 1-0 defeat away at Venezuela.

Bet of the Day

Since the beginning of the previous World Cup qualifying campaign, Argentina are unbeaten in each of their previous 19 qualifiers (W13-D6-L0), including in each of their last 10 on home soil. In fact, La Albiceleste have won six of their previous seven World Cup qualifiers on home turf – drawing 0-0 with Brazil in the other – and I’m backing them to secure another victory against a Paraguay side that is winless in each of their previous nine World Cup qualifiers away from home, losing six of their last seven.

To go alongside a home victory, I’m willing to add in a market that I’m generally not keen on, and that is the Win to Nil. However, the world champions have conceded just twice across their previous 12 World Cup qualifiers – and none in their last seven at home – and I’m backing them to record an eighth successive home clean sheet against a Paraguay side that has failed to score in each of their previous eight World Cup qualifiers on the road.

  • Argentina to Win to Nil
