Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the opening match of Round 35 in Serie A, and I’m backing the hosts to claim a low-scoring victory.

Two clubs at opposite ends of the Serie A table meet at the Olimpico on Friday night as third-placed Lazio entertain relegation-threatened Lecce.
Lazio suffered their third defeat across their previous four Serie A fixtures last weekend, as they lost 2-0 away at European rivals Milan. However, Maurizio Sarri’s men overcame Sassuolo 2-0 in their last league outing on home soil, meaning they have now won four of their previous five Serie A matches in front of their supporters. Only newly-crowned champions Napoli (23) have conceded fewer goals than Lazio (26), with no team recording more clean sheets than the 19 the Biancocelesti have earned.
Lecce head into this fixture just four points clear of the relegation zone, as they lost 0-1 at home to the team directly below them in the table, Hellas Verona. Marco Baroni’s visitors have been in abysmal form in recent months, losing nine of their previous 11 Serie A outings (W1-D1-L9) – including each of their last five on the road. The Giallorossi have failed to score in 9/17 of their road trips in the Italian top flight this season, scoring just 12 goals.
Bet of the Day
Lazio may come into this fixture having lost three of their last four, but two of those defeats came away to both Milan clubs and the other at home to ninth-placed Torino. The Biancocelesti have won four of their last five at home in Serie A, and I reckon they’ll be too strong for a Lecce side that has lost nine of their last 11 Serie A matches, including each of their previous five away.
To nudge up the price on a Lazio victory, I’m happy to throw in under five match goals. All 19 of the Rome clubs Serie A wins this season have featured fewer than five goals, whilst all 17 of the Giallorossi’s defeats have seen no more than three goals.
