Looking to build on three successive winners, Monday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the match in the French second-tier and I like the look of goals.

Sochaux vs Saint-Étienne

🇫🇷 Ligue 2

⏰ Monday 10th October, 19:45

Two teams at opposite ends of the Ligue 2 table meet at the Stade Auguste Bonal on Monday evening as fourth-placed Sochaux host to third-from-bottom Saint-Étienne.

After collecting just a solitary point from their opening three league matches, Sochaux went on a six-match winning run to climb up the French Ligue 2 table. However, that winning run came to an end last weekend, as they were defeated 2-1 away at fifth-placed Valenciennes. Olivier Guegan’s men have now failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five league outings. Only Le Harve (19) have found the back of the net more times than Sochaux (18) in Ligue 2 this season, with all eight of those goals coming in their last seven matches.

Saint-Étienne failed to grab just their third league victory of the season last time out, as they conceded late on to draw 2-2 at home to Grenoble Foot 38. Laurent Batlles’s men are one of three sides in the French second tier yet to win on their travels this season, drawing three and losing two of their five road trips. Les Verts currently have the joint-second worst defensive record in Ligue 2, letting in 19 goals in their opening 10 league outings. Saint-Étienne have failed to score just once this season and like Sochaux, are the joint-second top-scorers in the division, netting on 18 occasions.

Bet of the Day

Saint-Étienne will look to climb out of the relegation zone by claiming all three points but face a tough test away to a Sochaux side that can go within one point of league leaders Bordeaux with a win themselves. These two clubs are amongst the top-scoring sides in Ligue 2 this season, and I’m expecting an entertaining encounter in Montbéliard on Monday evening.

Laurent Batlles’s visitors have found the back of the net in 9/10 of their league fixtures this season – scoring on 18 occasions – and they’ll be confident of troubling a Sochaux defence that’s recorded just one clean sheet in their last five matches. However, Les Verts possess the joint-second leakiest defence in the division, and there’s a good chance they’ll concede at least twice for the sixth consecutive away match against a Sochaux attack that’s struck 18 times in their last seven matches.
