Just like last season, Rangers welcome Dutch side PSV to Ibrox in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie tomorrow night in what promises to be another thriller.
After beginning their season with a poor 1-0 defeat at Kilmarnock, Rangers put four past Livingston at Ibrox to claim their first three points in the Scottish Premiership this season before coming from a goal down to defeat Championship side Greenock Morton 2-1 in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday. Either side of that 4-0 victory over Livingston, Michael Beale’s men knocked out Swiss side Servette 3-2 on aggregate, with a James Tavernier header in Geneva last week setting up another tie with the Eindhoven club.
PSV have made a strong start to their campaign both domestically, and in Europe this season. After defeating last season’s Eredivisie winners Feyenoord in the Dutch Super Cup, Peter Bosz’s new side have beaten both Utrecht and Vitesse in the league to make it two wins from two to begin their title challenge. In the previous round, PSV comfortably dispatched Austrian side Sturm Graz 7-2 on aggregate, highlighting their potency in front of goal.

Over 2.5 Goals has banked in each of Rangers’ previous 10 European ties at Ibrox, with both teams scoring in seven of those – and given we’ve seen Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals land in four of PSV’s previous six Champions and Europa League matches on the road – I’m expecting to see a similarly attacking display to the 2-2 draw we saw both sides play out this time last year at Ibrox.
