Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Champions League and there’s one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.
Bayern Munich vs Barcelona
🇪🇺 Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 13th September, 20:00
Two of the biggest clubs in European football meet in Bavaria on Tuesday evening, as Bayern Munich play host to Catalan giants Barcelona at the Allianz Arena in Group C.
Bayern Munich began their Champions League campaign with an impressive 0-2 victory at the San Siro against Italian giants Inter. After beginning their Bundesliga campaign with three consecutive victories, Julian Nagelsmann’s side come into this match suffering a mini-crisis, with them drawing each of their last three matches – conceding a stoppage-time penalty to draw 2-2 at home to winless Stuttgart on Saturday. In their nine competitive fixtures this season, Der FCB have found the back of the net on 31 occasions, with 19 of those coming in their six Bundesliga fixtures.
Barcelona also kick-started their Champions League campaign with a victory, as they demolished Czech champions Viktoria Plzeň 5-1 at Camp Nou. After begging their La Liga campaign with a 0-0 draw at home to Rayo Vallecano, Xavi’s men have then went on to win each of their next four in the Spanish top-flight – defeating bottom-side Cádiz 0-4 at the weekend. Barça have been in fine goal-scoring in recent weeks, with them finding the back of the net 20 times in their last five matches in league and Europe.
Bet of the Day
Barcelona have been absolutely flying in recent weeks but face the ultimate test as they come up against Bayern Munich in their own backyard. Both sides are stacked with a plethora of attacking talent, but given they are vulnerable defensively, I’m expecting an end-to-end encounter full of goals.
Xavi’s visitors have won each of their last five in all competitions, including impressive 1-4 and 0-3 victories away to Real Sociedad and Sevilla respectively and they’ll look to trouble an out-of-sorts Bayern side who have drawn each of their last three in the Bundesliga. Despite their slow start, Julian Nagelsmann’s hosts have been scoring plenty of goals and I expect them to trouble a Barça defence that doesn’t look the most convincing.
