Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Conference League and in particular, two British sides who should have too much firepower for their visitors.

Celtic vs Bodø/Glimt

🇪🇺 Conference League

⏰ Thursday 17th February, 20:00

Celtic return to European action on Thursday night, as they take on Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt at Celtic Park in the knockout stages of the Conference League.

Celtic enter the Conference League having finished third in their Europa League group, behind both Bayer Leverkusen and Real Betis. The Hoops have W4-D1-L1 in Europe so far this season, with Bayer Leverkusen being the only side to leave Celtic Park with a victory. Defeat in the reverse fixture with Leverkusen was the last time Ange Postecoglou’s side lost a match, with the Bhoys winning 16 and drawing one of their last 17 matches. Celtic have won 18 of their 22 competitive matches at Celtic Park this season, including each of their last nine.

Bodø/Glimt secured back-to-back Eliteserien titles on the 12th of December, which was the last time they were in competitive action. The Norwegians reached the knockout stages of the Conference League by finishing second in their group, just a point behind Italian giants Roma. Kjetil Knutsen’s side won all three matches on home turf, including a famous 6-1 win over Roma, however they failed to win any of three group games away from home. In fact, including qualifiers, the Norwegians won just one of their seven away matches and that came against near-neighbours Valur Reykjavík of Iceland.

Leicester City vs Randers

🇪🇺 Conference League

⏰ Thursday 17th February, 20:00

Brendan Rodgers could do with a morale-boosting victory in the Conference League, as they take on Danish side Randers at the King Power Stadium on Thursday evening.

Leicester City dropped into the Conference League after finishing third in their group, behind both Spartak Moscow and Napoli. The Foxes won two, drew two and lost two of their six group matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding 13. Despite sitting 12th in the Premier League, only the current top-five have outscored Leicester this season, with Brendan Rodgers side scoring 36 goals in their opening 22 league matches. Leicester have scored in 14/17 of their competitive matches at home this season, scoring 2+ in 10 of them.

Randers made it to the knockout stages of the Conference League by finishing second to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in their group. The Danish side collected just seven points in their group, with just two of them coming away from home. Thomas Thomasberg’s side failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their six group matches, conceding a total of nine goals. With the Danish Superliga yet to resume from their winter break, Randers have not played a competitive match since the 12th of December in the Danish DBU Pokalen.

Bet of the Day

Celtic come into this in terrific form, winning 16 of their last 17 matches and will be confident of taking an advantage to Norway next week. The back-to-back Norwegian champions have not been in competitive action since the middle of December and have lost a few key players. The Hoops have won four of their six European matches at Celtic Park, including group matches against Ferencváros and Real Betis and I’m backing Ange Postecoglou’s men to defeat a Bodø/Glimt side who tend to do their best work on home turf. Brendan Rodgers is a man under-pressure and knows winning the Conference League is his best chance of securing European football for next season. Despite their struggles this season, The Foxes have still been prolific in-front of goal and I’m backing them to score at least twice against a Randers side that failed to keep a clean sheet in the Conference League group stages and that’s not been in competitive action since mid-December.

  • Celtic to Win
  • Leicester City to Score 2+
