Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me once more focus on the match involving my own side Rangers and I’m expecting goals against a free-scoring PSV side.
Rangers vs PSV
🇪🇺 Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 16th August, 20:00
Rangers play host to PSV on Tuesday evening at what will be once again an atmospheric Ibrox in the first-leg of their Champions League play-off tie.
Rangers maintained their 100% start to the Premiership season on Saturday afternoon, as they comfortably defeated St Johnstone 4-0 at home. After losing 2-0 in Belgium in the first-leg, Rangers won 3-0 at home in the return leg against Union Saint-Gilloise to get through to the play-off round. Giovanni van Bronckhorst has now won five and drawn one of his opening six European matches in charge of Rangers Ibrox, including memorable victories over the likes of Braga and RB Leipzig. The Teddy Bears scored at least twice in all six of those mentioned matches, scoring three times in each of their last four.
PSV also maintained their 100% start to their domestic campaign, as they followed up a 4-1 success at home to Emmen by defeating 10-man Go Ahead Eagles 2-5 on Saturday evening. After drawing 1-1 away in Monaco in the first-leg, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side were on the brink of elimination after going down 1-2 in Eindhoven, but they equalised on the 89th minute before winning the tie in extra-time thanks to a Luuk de Jong goal. There’s been a remarkable 27 goals in PSV’s five competitive matches this season, with 18 of those being scored by Rood-witten.
Bet of the Day
Rangers will look to keep up their impressive European record at Ibrox and take a lead to Eindhoven next week but face a tough test against a free-scoring PSV side. The Gers have won six and drawn one of their last seven matches in Europe at Ibrox, including a 3-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise last Tuesday, but come against a PSV side that knocked-out a very good Monaco side.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men have scored 18 goals in their last seven European fixtures at Ibrox, scoring on multiple occasions in each of them and I expect them to trouble a PSV defence yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s visitors have scored 18 goals in their five competitive fixtures this season and they’ll be confident of increasing that tally in Govan tomorrow evening. Each of Rangers’ last five European fixtures have seen at least three strikes and given four of PSV’s five competitive games this season have also broken the over 2.5 goals barrier, there’s a good chance we’ll see another three goals at what will be an atmospheric Ibrox tomorrow evening.
