The 2025/26 EFL Championship season is now in full swing, and as is typical with this league, there have already been some shock results.
Sheffield United, one of the favourites to be promoted before a ball was kicked, have lost all but one of their matches so far, and head coach Ruben Selles has already been replaced by Chris Wilder, with the English manager now in his third spell in charge of the Blades. With 37 games to play, though, it would be foolish to write just about any team other than Sheffield Wednesday off just yet.
Indeed, the Blades' rivals have suffered from significant financial issues, and can hardly put a senior squad together at this moment in time. However, they have managed to pick up six points so far, so who knows?
Nonetheless, we will be assessing the EFL Championship outright winner odds and providing regular updates, as they constantly fluctuate on a game-by-game basis. It will no doubt be interesting to see the changes that occur week on week.
Best EFL Championship outright winner odds
Coventry 5/2 Ipswich 11/4 Middlesbrough 7/1 Leicester 13/1 Southampton 14/1 West Brom 18/1 Birmingham 20/1 Stoke 33/1 Bristol City 40/1 Millwall 40/1
Coventry – 5/2
Coventry are the new favourites to win the Championship this season, and it's clear to see why. The Sky Blues are unbeaten after nine matches, are top of the league and have already amassed a goal difference of +20. Frank Lampard did a brilliant job of turning Coventry around last season, and he is starting to get the plaudits that he deserves.
There is still a long way to go, but nobody in the Championship wants to face Coventry at this moment in time.
Ipswich – 11/4
Kieran McKenna's Ipswich started the season quite poorly, but they have now won three of their last four league matches and are rising up the table. The Tractor Boys have also already played some difficult fixtures, including matches against Birmingham and Southampton.
Middlesbrough – 7/1
The Championship's early pace-setters were Middlesbrough, and so their odds of winning the title have shortened substantially. Boro have become a little bogged down in recent games, though, but they have the manager and players to bounce back and get back on track.
Only time will tell as to whether they can keep pace with the likes of Coventry and Ipswich.
Leicester – 13/1
Leicester ran away with the Championship last time they were in the second tier but ahead of the new season, they weren't considered among the favourites. Part of that is due to PSR issues, and the club could still face a penalty for that, which explains why they are still considered long shots to win the title.
On the pitch, though, the Foxes are performing well and are currently just three points behind Coventry.
Who will win the EFL Championship in 2025/26? Here is our prediction
Despite Ipswich being the favourites, the Championship is often unpredictable, and we just do not see the Tractor Boys running away with the title after losing their best player and scorer this summer in Liam Delap to Chelsea, while Omari Hutchinson has also recently gone to the Premier League himself to join Nottingham Forest.
Coventry look very much like a team capable of going the distance, and they are our pick at present.
