Darts Tips: @Lockuptipster’s Premier League Week Two Tips

WEEK two of the Premier League has rolled around and parks up at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff where Gerwyn Price will hope to have home support to build on his 6-6 draw last week.

Order of play – player named on the left will throw first with odds quoted home win, draw and away win.

Michael Smith Vs Daryl Gurney

• (7/4 – 10/3 – 11/10) Head-2-Head 5-3

The battle of two of the younger stars on the PDC circuit where Smith should be entering the fold with high confidence after sealing a UK Open qualifier victory last weekend. Only MVG won the other two events.

Hopefully one would think the hammering Smith took in a last 32 against Gurney last weekend will not play too much on his mind.

Personally if I was choosing a winner here on the match result, Smith is throwing first is 7/4 to win with an 11/10 cushion on the draw no bet market.

Interestingly looking at the first leg 180 market there is some difference of opinion with Ladbrokes offering 4/5 and 10bet 5/6 on no maximum in leg one to sponsors Unibet covering the NO outcome but offering 13/8 on a maximum in the opening leg is certainly a market I am considering.

I do also like Smith to win the race to 3 legs at 5/6 as Gurney will need to break the throw at evens and this frankly is too short in my opinion.

Rob Cross Vs Simon Whitlock

• (3/5 – 4/1 – 4/1) H2H 3-1

Rob Cross entered the Premier League last week and experienced a well voiced crowd for a Thursday night losing out to Michael van Gerwen. His weekend subsequently went from bad to worse with three successive UK Open qualifier defeats. Cross will welcome Whitlock who achieved the highest match average last week edging out Mensur Suljovic with a pleasing 106.49 display.

Cross has Whitlock beaten 3-1 in the head to head so will have an idea of the style of the Aussie. Cross is 3/5 with BetBright and as short as 1/2 with other high street layers.

A no bet for this game although can see Cross getting over the line.

Michael van Gerwen Vs Peter Wright

• (4/11 – 5/1 – 13/2) H2H 48-11

With the head to head record against Wright there will be plenty of confidence on Mighty Mike after two victories in the UK Open qualifiers last weekend.

Wright certainly did not feel comfortable in a scrappy 6-6 tie with Gerwyn Price and commentators suggested he would tweak his set up again.

MVG went back to winning form last week seeing Cross off and see Mighty Mike making it 2/2. His 4/11 price may be well backed with confidence but particularly like the 11/10 on MVG to win and hit most 180’s.

I feel Wright’s distraction in changing his set up too frequently is his weakness and MVG will bite just at the right time.

Gerwyn Price Vs Gary Anderson

• (11/4 – 7/2 – 13/15) H2H 2-5

A game where less than two weeks ago Anderson got angry visually playing Price and since struggled in a low 80 average game with his back issue.

Price went to a scrappy 6-6 draw and had moments during the game but needs to tighten his checkouts up.

No bet for this game.

Raymond van Barneveld Vs Mensur Suljovic

• (15/13 – 100/30 – 37/19) H2H 5-3

The master Barney will look to add to his point last week where his opponent was edged out 7-5 by Whitlock.

Suljovic missed the UK Open qualifiers last weekend and will not compete at the event. Barney will be well fancied at 6/5 with Unibet to win this and has the advantage on throw.

Barney is fairly effective on throw and one break is all that he needs to win. However I feel the game may get cagey the longer both hold throw but am confident he can win the race to three legs!
