BOOKIES are paying out on Scotland to reach the Euro 2016 finals – six months before the start of the qualifying campaign.
McBookie have cut their losses following a series of four-figure bets from the Manchester area on Gordon Strachan's men who are in Group D along with the likes of Germany, Poland and Republic of Ireland.
Big money has been laid down on the Scots, who haven't reached a major tournament since 1998, after rumours emerged about the international future of Man United starlet Adnan Januzaj.
The 19-year-old winger has been a star turn for David Moyes's men but has yet to choose an adopted football country. He can pick between his birth nation Belgium as well as Albania, Turkey, Serbia and Kosovo.
For months the English FA have been trying to tie down Januzaj but it seems Man United team-mate Darren Fletcher and boss Moyes have turned his attention to Scotland. He's developing a Scottish twang and that should be good enough for FIFA to rubberstamp his decision.
In recent months Januzaj has been spotted monster-watching in Loch Ness, salmon fishing on Loch Tay and enjoying the delights of smokies on a visit to Arbroath when he watched the local side lose to Airdrie recently.
The youngster was impressed by the fact players could kick the ball into the North Sea and informed team-mate Wayne Rooney it was more of a skill than scoring from halfway. He told his pal: “These Scottish lads can hoof the ball as far as Norway – I want to be part of that.”
Januzaj also likes some of the SNP's ideas if they win the independence vote and the fact players who can trap a ball less than five feet will be exempt from taxes.
Gordon Strachan's side were 5-2 to qualify for the Euros and McBookie spokesman Paul Petrie said: “It is clear from the number of bets we have taken from the Manchester area that Darren Fletcher and Davie Moyes have been persuading Adnan Januzaj to pick Scotland.
“Scotland has a history of flying wingers and it is a cert we'll qualify with him in the side. Anyone who backed Scotland to qualify before April 1st will be paid out immediately.”
Scotland sponsors Vauxhall are thrilled at the prospect of Januzaj becoming a Scot. Spokesperson Rolf Poali said: “We called our latest car after Charlie Adam but now we'll need to bring out an Adnan.”
Well, I shall be selling my house called “loof-lirpa” here in Australia and chucking all my spare cash on the very sensible bet.

I hear Ryan Giggs thinks United can still win the Champions League. That has surely got to be the biggest joke of the day!

Trucker, only remembered last night to do one so it was quickly put together. As long as I catch one person out it’s worth it – and obviously we have.
Mr F or anyone…is this truly as clear cut as it seems? this inst april fools prank right? since im not located in europe im in a position to be able to jump on this at some nice odds…worth it?
fool lol
footyfan44, just got a text from someone working in Manchester registry office saying a young lad’s been in and changed his name to Adam McJanuzaj.
as in are these players u mentioned really going to play for scottland and if so do you really expect them to qualify, its 6/5 in europe where as i can get better than 3/1 and yes i am aware half this article is fairytale
macca i know whats going on, but when there are discrepancies that large in odds there must be some merit of truth to what i just read, and if so i have little time to work with to take adv of such large discrepancies
Hahahahahaha very funny
Pmsl :)
As good as last year – and that was a corker!
How’s that job with the gers going by the way, Mr F? ;-)
As I was reading the article I was suddenly getting very patriotic (Irish) thinking you would need a lot more than that to beat us but to be fair it would probably be enough:)
