AUGUST 24: LEAGUE CUP TIPS

THERE are four ties in the Scottish League Cup and it doesn't make much sense to back against any of the favourites.

The best bets must be Inverness at Ayr. Terry Butcher's men are missing striker Adam Rooney who moved to Birmingham in the summer but there are signs of improvement.

Caley Thistle won the second half 1-0 at Aberdeen and in their only other away game they hit three in a thrilling draw at Dunfermline.

Last time the sides met at Somerset it was 7-0 to the Highlanders and they have scored 15 goals against Ayr in their last three clashes.

So despite sitting at the foot of the SPL I reckon Caley Thistle, a biggest 10-11 with Coral and Blue Square, will beat the First Division men.

Ayr, as big as 10-3 at bet365, have started well and while they pose a threat going forward it's their defence that will be stretched and it's time the likes of Richie Foran and Jonny Hayes starting filling the boots of Rooney.

It should be a cracking contest and I can see both teams scoring at 4-5 with Skybet.

Motherwell were brought down to earth by Rangers at the weekend but should bounce back with a win at Third Division Clyde.

Well are a best 2-5 with William Hill and Ladbrokes and it's worth taking them at 21-20 with boylesports minus one.

Falkirk, 8-13 at bet365 and Chandler, shouldn't have too many worries in their derby clash with Stenhousemuir.

However, I can see both teams scoring at 10-11 with William Hill and Skybet.

St Johnstone face the toughest test on paper as they entertain Livingston but Derek McInnes' men will have taken a massive boost from their shock win at Celtic at the weekend.

Saints hadn't scored until then but confidence will be sky high and they should be able to channel it see off Livi.

The Perth side are a best 4-5 with Betfred and William Hill with Livi bound to have some support at 4-1 with bet365.
