Guest tipster David Jack gives us his exclusive lowdown on how the US Open at Flushing Meadow will shape in both the men's and women's tournaments.
All eyes will be on Andy Murray as the US Open gets underway at Flushing Meadows tomorrow but I reckon the Scot will be left heartbroken again, this time at the hands of world No.1 Rafael Nadal.
The final Grand Slam of 2010 is the only one missing from the Spaniard's cv and I believe his desire to complete a clean sweep will drive him to glory in New York.
Nadal, who heads into the Slam with a 52-7 record this year, is best priced at 7-2 > with Paddy Power. Barring any shocks, and I don't expect any, Murray and Nadal will meet in a mouthwatering semi-final showdown but the Mallorcan's 8-4 head to-head record against world No.4 Murray will see him through.
I don't expect any surprises in the other side of the draw either and a semi-final victory for world No.2 Roger Federer over world No.3 Novak Djokovic will set up a Nadal/Federer final (9-2, Skybet).
First day treble
- Taylor Dent
- Janko Tipsarevic
- Kevin Anderson
- (Pays £33 to a £10 stake at William Hills)
In the women's singles reigning champion Kim Clijsters (7-2, Betfred) is favourite to land her third US Open crown but I'm going for Caroline Wozniacki (8-1, William Hill) to capture her first Grand Slam. The 20-year-old world No.2 from Denmark is top seed in New York in the absence of the injured Serena Williams.
Wozniacki is in the form of her life after winning her fourth title of 2010 on Sunday at New Haven, a venue where she is unbeaten following wins in 2008 and 09. Clijsters and Wozniacki are split in the betting by 2006 champion Maria Sharapova (11-2) while Venus Williams is fourth favourite.
British No.1 Elena Baltacha begins her bid today against Croat Petra Martic and I fancy the Scot to progress to the second round. Baltacha has enjoyed a largely successful year with a 35-18 season run and taking her in an opening-day treble with Dinara Safina and Anastasia Rodionova pays £48 to a £10 stake at William Hill.
